- Hand scissors will suffice for small plant walls. However, with large surfaces it would be tiring. A better solution is specialized, solid scissors with a drive - says Marcin Salata.
- Cordless tools are a practical solution. They have the advantage over ordinary electric ones that we are not dependent on access to the power grid and we will not accidentally cut the cable.However, their advantage over the internal combustion engine is even clearer: the battery ones are quieter, easier, safer to use and do not poison the air - he explains.
The cutting technique is also important. It is best to shape each hedge so that the cross-section of its walls has the shape of an isosceles trapezoid. - This will provide all shoots (and those above and below) with the same access to sunlight - explains the product manager at Lange Łukaszuk.In order to even out such a carefully formed wall, it is worth using a rope: at the top, the second in the middle, and the third at the bottom.
This will show us how long we should trim the roots. - It is also important to guide the blades of the motorized scissors: first we cut from top to bottom to get rid of unnecessary fragments, and then we go back up to correct any shortcomings. As he adds, we must also ensure that the knives are always sharp - blunt tools will tear plants, which may have fatal consequences - it will worsen their condition.And one more key thing: let's get going for such a treatment only on cloudy days.Thanks to this, the exposed, trimmed shoots will not be immediately exposed to intense sunlight.
Fertilizer for regeneration
The first days after such an operation are difficult for plants that have to deal with damage, and besides, their surface area involved in nutrition (photosynthesis) has decreased significantly.Therefore, it is good to feed the hedge with slow-release intervention fertilizers immediately after pruning. This will allow them to quickly recover and regenerate.
