Kaktusiarnia - growing cacti

Table of contents

Cactushave always been my great passion. I grew them on windowsills with a south-west exposure and they also felt the best there. I kept larger specimens on the plot:

  • prickly pears,
  • agawy

and plants that like warm climates:

  • passiflora,
  • oleandra,
  • of lead,
  • bougainvillea.

With time, I decided to set up amini-cactus shopThe only problem was the logistic layout of the space under the cover. There was no room for large tables. Two shelves were created on the side wall of the greenhouse within two years of alterations. Their underside is made of a thickmetal meshso thatcactido not stand in the water. On it, in the gravel, there are pots with plants. On the other hand, underneath the shelf, there are bowls with compositions created, among others, byprickly pearsiagaves

Rest period

In September, I put smaller pots in low cardboard boxes. I fill the empty spaces between them with newspapers so thatcactuswon't freeze. Packed in this way, I put it in the middle of the gazebo for the winter and make sure that the temperature does not drop below 5 ° C there.

Cactusdo not water during the dormant period. We don't start doing it until May. Once there is no longer any risk of frost, they can be returned to the greenhouse.

I'm impatient though. Already in April, I wake up my plants by watering them with lukewarm water and take them tocactus plant . On cooler days, I cover it.

Protection

Mojecactusdo not get sick. However, if a specimen is attacked by mushrooms, I have a solution. I cut off the sick piece. I sprinkle the wound with charcoal and transplant the plant to a dry substrate.

Cactus commandments of Jolanta Konsek

  • Don't overflow!
  • Provide a loose and flowing substrate!
  • Remember that their period of rest is September-April!
  • Prepare a brush for cleaning plants, and for transplanting tongs (they can be spaghetti)! Then the care of prickly beauties hurts less.
