If we want to use fresh vegetables without breaks from spring to autumn, we must grow them in a specific area.It has been calculated that at least 20 m² of a vegetable garden should be allocated per person.A larger area, from 30 to 40 m², is needed when a part of the harvest of beans, peas, cabbage or root vegetables is to be frozen, preserve or store.

If we would like to give up buying vegetables almost completely, we should plan to grow them at least 60 m² per family member.These are quite large areas, so remember about the increasing amount of our work. Time flies when sowing, planting, caring and harvesting.

Every 100 m² of vegetable garden should be farmed on average from one to two hours a day.This calculation, however, does not take into account the varying intensity of the work required. It should also be remembered that working in a vegetable garden cannot always wait until the end of the week and the weekend off.

Lack of time and scarcity of space in the garden encourage you to look for other ideas.You can, for example, grow vegetables that are more difficult to find in vegetable stores or those that are tastiest fresh right after harvesting from the flower bed, which are clearly superior to plants bought in a supermarket.In this group they are on example, various leaf lettuces, colorful leaf beets, delicate golden yellow courgettes
and young sugar peas.

The choice of vegetables is also determined by individual preferences. We appreciate the taste of plants more and more.Artichokes and eggplants do not yield high yields, but do not require intensive care, as do red cabbage or kale.Vegetables can also be associated with ornamental plants. The appearance of the vegetable patch is completely changed by the rows of colorfully blooming marigolds, cosmos or nasturtiums separating the rows of carrots, parsley and red beets.
