My husband and I wanted our pond to be full of plants and become a showpiece of the plot.
Where and how to build a pond?
We chose a place sheltered from the sun for the construction of the pond, because too intense sunlight stimulates the growth of algae. And as you know, it's not a good thing. My husband bought a ready-made form and … started digging a big hole. It lasted almost a full day, but the effort paid off. On the next day, we spread an agrotextile around the mesh that prevents the grass from growing around.
What to decorate and plant a pond with?
We covered the agrotextile with bark and white grit, which blends in very well with the plants.We planted a few conifers, heathers, euonymus, tawułek and barberry to make our pond as natural as possible. My husband built a cascade of flat stones, and a special pump placed in the pond gave the effect of rising steam. We have placed solar lamps on the banks of the reservoir, which create an amazing atmosphere at night. We planted a water hyacinth, ornamental grasses and calamus in the water.
Of course, such a tank requires constant care. Here are some tips for all those who have ponds.
What is the best way to look after a pond?
- Let's add some chemical with a coagulant to the water. This will stop the growth of algae.
- Winter aquatic plants outside the reservoir.
- Let's remove leaves that fall on the water surface, which pollute the tank.
- Take any devices out of the pond (e.g. pumps) that could be damaged by frost.
- In winter, the shallow reservoir should be drained completely.
