Iksja comes from Africa, he is distinguished, among others, by the fact that it closes its flowers in shady places, and also after dark.Very well suited as a cut flower.
Iksia produces small spherical to oval tubers with straight or branched inflorescences and narrow lanceolate leaves.Flowers appear on 5-12 shoots.Plants reach a height of 50 cm.
Iksia is sensitive to cold, so it must be grown in sand pots or in sunny, sheltered positions in the ground.Plants prefer a loose, fertile, humus and well-drained substrate. The soil must never get wet.
The tubers should be planted in October / November to a depth of only 5 cm at intervals of approx. 10 cm. It is also possible to plant in spring, i.e. in March or April.
Iksias are very susceptible to frost, so tubers planted out in the fall should be mulched with straw or, for example, spruce branches.Young plants planted in spring are exposed to late frosts. Before the cold, they can be covered protect with a large, upside down pot.
Iksia grows very well in rock gardens and is an excellent cut flower. It looks very attractive in the vicinity of ornamental grasses and flowering perennials.Suitable for border borders, as well as for colorful bedding plantings.
Plants should be fed before flowering to stimulate flower development. After flowering, we limit watering.
