The Pinnate Dianthus plumarius is a small perennial with lovely flowers and jagged petals. It reproduces easily from shoot cuttings which take root quite quickly under good conditions. This is best done in mid-June.However, carnation cuttings can also be rooted in a warm, bright room in winter.
For reproduction, we use the apical parts of long shoots without flower buds. You can also root short, strong stems growing straight out of the ground.Such vegetative reproduction has the advantage that new plants take over all the features of the mother plant.
Cloves can also be propagated from seeds that mature at the beginning of summer. However, in this case it is uncertain whether the flowers of the daughter plants will be full or single and what color they will have. Plants grow well in a sunny place with sandy and humus soil.
1. We obtain carnation shoots without flower buds from the bed.
2. Their optimal length is 10-15 cm.
3. Use a knife to cut the shoot below the elbow.Remove the lower leaves and trim the remaining . We don't have to cut the lowest leaves, just bend them down with your fingers.
4. Place the prepared seedlings in the soil for plant propagation, e.g. in multi-pots, and water them.
5. After two or three weeks, the cuttings should take root well.
6. Now they can be transplanted into slightly larger pots so that the roots can grow freely.Note: press the soil around the plants well with your fingers.
7. Seedlings placed in one litter box can be better cared for and kept until the next spring.
8. Plants for which there will be no room in the bed can be moved to larger containers. They will grow in them for a very long time.
