Peruvian Dziwaczek - unusual flower

Table of contents

I have been a plant lover for over 40 years, and since retiring 5 years ago, I have devoted all my time to the garden. I'd like to share some news about an interesting flower which isPeruvian weirdo Mirabilis jalapaThis plant is native to southern Mexico, where it is a perennial. It is grown here as an annual, sown from seeds. It grows up to 80 cm and in the right conditions it sprouts profusely.

Dziwaczekgrows well in sandy and moist soil. During the season, it requires feeding every 2-3 weeks with multi-component mineral fertilizer. Under
cover, it can be sown in the second decade of April, and it can be transplanted into the ground after May 15. Nothing prevents you from sowing it immediately on a permanent position after "cold gardeners".

You have to remember to place seeds or cuttings between 25x40 cm. Such a distance will allow the plant to grow freely.Dziwaczekblooms from July to October. The flowers are intoxicating with a delicate scent and - what is extraordinary - they can have a different color on one bush. They are closed during the day and only open in the evening. The plant produces peanut seeds that are worth harvesting for the next season.

Amazing flower

A single plant has flowers of various colors - from white and yellow, through orange, to purple. Even more remarkable is that they can change color during flowering.
The unusual flowers are closed during the day. They only open after 4 p.m. or on cloudy days.Hence the colloquial name of the weirdo - "the four o'clock flower."
A few years ago, Spanish scientists discovered that yellow petals had fluorescent properties, so they glow at night!
