No fruit is better than the one picked from your own garden. Apples and pears not only taste great, but also help you stay he althy.
Pear trees are usually slender trees with straight upright branches. If we do not want them to grow too high, a young tree must be formed. Prune the shoots and hang them, for example, bags with stones on the twigs. I remember that we also x-rayed our pear tree's crown several times. We chose a place for her in full sun, where she has been growing for many years. I think that our "old lady" feels good here because she produces tasty and nice pears every year.
If someone has a large garden and will be able to cultivate a large amount of fruit, it is beneficial to plant several pear trees of different varieties next to each other. Flower pollen transferred by insects, e.g. from 'Szarnezy' or 'Dobra Ludwika' to other pear trees, will make the fruit ripen better and the harvest will be better.
Pear trees are not fully self-pollinating, therefore cross-pollination is necessary.Other necessary works include watering the tree during a drought. Then it is worth providing the pear tree with several buckets of water regularly.
Our fruit tree does not get sick often, but if you notice gray spots on the leaves, you need to spray the pear (we used Kaptan 50 WP, and another time Miedzian 50 WP). Such discoloration that then turns black is a sign of a scab infection. The fungus also attacks fruit. The pears have a cork shell and often break.

How to plant a pear tree
Plant the tree in spring or autumn, but not later than October 20, so that frosts do not damage the delicate seedling. The site should be higher to prevent groundwater leaking. The best soil is humus soil, slightly acidic (pH 5-6.5) and water-permeable (sandy loam). We dig a round hole to a depth of approx. 60-70 cm. Its diameter should be similar to the size of the tree's crown. The bottom of the hole should be loosened and 1/3 fill the hole with a mixture of compost, humus and wood ash. It is also worth adding about 150 g of superphosphate and 200 g of potassium sulphate. These fertilizers will strengthen the tree and provide growth stimulating substances.
