Diseases and pests of orchids

Table of contents

The most dangerous bacterial diseases are: wet rot - at the base of the shoots, glassy discoloration develops, which with time turns brown, becomes watery and gives off an unpleasant odor - and leaf blotch when irregular, soft, gray spots appear on the leaves. We fight both diseases by spraying the plants three times a week apart with Kupromet or Miedzian.

Among fungal diseases, orchids most often suffer from photophthorosis - the lower side of the leaf blade becomes light green, and brown or black spots appear on the upper side. The infected parts of the plants should be removed and then the orchids should be watered with Fongarid. As a preventive measure, we can also spray them several times with Aliette or Galben. In the event of gray mold - a symptom of the disease are irregular brown spots on the leaves, sometimes covered with gray coating - spray the plants with Sumilex, Bravo, Topsin or Gwarant. We repeat the treatment after a week.

Orchids are also attacked by scale, spider mites and aphids. They have to be sprayed with Decis or Fastac.
