Year-round strawberry care plan

Strawberries are often the first fruits we pick from the plot. Early varieties already yield at the beginning of June.If the bushes are covered with fleece in advance, we will speed up the harvest by up to 10 days.

Own fruit definitely differs in taste from the bought ones, and they are even happier because they lack the residues of plant protection products. So they are definitely he althier.

Spring care

Due to their small size, strawberry shrubs are very sensitive to the presence of weeds that compete with them for water and nutrients. It is therefore important from the beginning of the season to systematically weeding the beds.Strawberries have a rich bundle root system, which, however, is located quite shallow below the soil surface.

High temperatures and prolonged lack of rainfall always adversely affect the growth and yielding of plants. If we cannot provide the bushes with regular watering, mulching the substrate gives good results.

Summer planting

The planting date for strawberry shrubs differs slightly from the traditional planting time of most fruit plants. We set up strawberry plantation much earlier, in the second half of summer. The earlier the bushes are planted, the greater the harvest will be in the next season. The planting date depends on the availability of seedlings. The first, sufficiently grown ones, appear already in August.

The stand for strawberries should always be sunny, because only in full sun does the fruit taste excellent. Seedlings are usually planted in a row system.Rows should be spaced every 60-80 centimeters. Place the seedlings in a row every 20 centimeters.

He althy strawberries

Strawberries are affected by many diseases and pests. Therefore, material for new plantations should always come from a reliable source. We buy seedlings only in qualified nurseries. However, if we have a young and he althy plantation, we can produce seedlings ourselves.

It is enough to let the young plants that appear at the ends of the runners take root. In order for the seedlings to be strong, we only leave a few runners and remove the rest. When the plants have 3-4 leaves, cut them off, dig up the plants and then plant them in a new position.

The most delicious varieties of strawberries

Always he althy fruit

He althy fruit is one that has nutritional value, does not contain chemical residues, and is not infested with diseases. The proper he alth of the fruit can be ensured by isolating it from the damp substrate. For this purpose, we put straw (or thick non-woven fabric or agrotextile) under the bushes at the time of flowering.Fruits protected in this way dry quickly and are therefore less often affected by gray mold.
