Strawberry anthracnose is afungal disease caused by fungi of the genus Colletotrichum (C. gleosporioides and C. acutatum). These fungi can be found on various plant species (including weeds), from where they can be easily transferred to strawberries. Their development is favored by warm (above 20 ° C) and humid weather accompanied by rainfall and wind.
Strawberry anthracnose symptomsmay appear on all parts of the plant. Infected strawberry leaves wilt and die, and black or brown spots can be seen on the surface. - planting strawberries in elevated beds and avoiding wetland soils,
- avoid sprinkling whole plants (preferably install drip irrigation),
- mulching the ground under the strawberries,
- regular weeding of strawberries (many weeds can be disease carriers)
If you noticefirst symptoms of strawberry anthracnose , remove infected plants. In order for the fight against strawberry anthracnose to be effective, spraying with fungicides should also be carried out.
Strawberry anthracnose spraying
Spraying strawberries against anthracnose should be carried out systematically every 7-10 daysin the phase just before flowering and from the flowering phase to the end of fruit ripening, with a grace period for individual preparations. It is best to use at least 2 different preparations alternately.
In amateur strawberry cultivation in home and allotment gardensspraying against anthracnose strawberries can be performed with preparations : Switch 62.5 WG and Scorpion 325 SC.Switch 62.5 WG can be used preventively or when the first appear
symptoms of the disease throughout the flowering period of the strawberry. Intervals between spraying should be 10-14 days, and a maximum of 3 sprays can be done with this agent.Dosage Switch 62.5 WG against strawberry anthracnoseequals 8g of the product dissolved in 6-8 liters of water, which should be enough to spray 100 m² of strawberry beds.
Spray Scorpion 325 SC can be preventive orimmediately after noticing the first symptoms of strawberry anthracnose , in the period from the beginning of the formation of shoots and young plants until the end of the fruit ripening phase. The agent is used in the amount of 10 ml for 3-12 liters of water, which should be enough for spraying up to 100m² of strawberry cultivation. The minimum interval between treatments is 7 days. During the season, you can spray up to 3 sprays with this agent.
Additionally, as an auxiliary agent, Topnin M 500 SC can also be used, which is registered forprotecting strawberries against other diseases- true mildew, white leaf spot and gray mold.Only one spraying with Topsin is allowed per season, therefore the most recommended term in garden cultivation is spraying strawberries after the fruit has been harvested and the leaves have been mowed. It will complement the previously performed sprayings (during the flowering and maturation of sheep) with the preparations Switch 62.5 WG and Scorpion 325 SC.
