How to arrange a terrace

How to arrange a terrace, depending on climatic conditions

How to arrange a terrace located on the south side?
Let's start planning changes on the terrace by determiningthe location of our terracebecause it is of key importance. If it is facing south, it will get very hot and dry easily. Not all plants can stand these conditions. Many species will not withstand high temperatures, sun and quick drying, so choose those that will not be too much of a problem. This is where geraniums, verbena, osteospermum, silver old man, ornamental grasses from the sedge family and herbaceous plants will work. The choice of furniture and other equipment must also be carefully considered. Natural rattan or plastic furniture will certainly lose their color and may deform a little. In turn, the wood may dry out and crack too much with time.

How to arrange the terrace on the north side?
If the terrace is facing north, it will be a rather cooler and more humid place. Here, too, we have to choose the right plants, which are not bothered by a lack of light. In such a place, common ivy, ferns, begonia, fuchsia and impatiens will grow well. On the other hand, furniture made of natural materials, such as wood, is exposed to moisture, which can lead to mold and deformation. That is why it is worth considering furniture made of plastic, metal or polyrattan.
Terrace with or without a roof?
If the leisure space at our disposal is uncovered, it is worth considering roofing it. This solution has many advantages. Then we will not have to hurry to hide pillows, books or other non-durable items when it starts to rain. Staying in the fresh air, we will rest from the scorching sun. We will also be able to sit on the terrace for breakfast or another meal without worrying about the weather. Of course, we do not have to decide on the construction of a permanent roof, we can instead try a roll-up awning on a lightweight structure.

How to arrange the terrace so that it does not windy
If we can cover the sides of the terrace, it is also worth thinking about. Blowing rain or nagging wind will not disturb our rest. For this purpose, we can build the sides of the terrace, but we can also make a light plexiglass structure or install grids on which we will lead dense vines such as vines, clematis or honeysuckles.

What kind of furniture for the terrace?

Now let's think about the equipment for our terrace. An area of approx. 10 m² is sufficient to arrange a set of comfortable garden furniture. However, when we have more space, we can also find a place for a hammock or set up garden loungers. We will be able to lie down comfortably on them, read the newspaper or fall into a relaxing nap. When planning the arrangement of equipment on our terrace, we should pay attention not to obstruct communication between the house and the garden. Constantly avoiding a table or chair can be quite bothersome.

How to arrange a terrace - furniture selection

Choosingpatio furniture , let's think carefully what kind will be the best for us and will last the longest. Of course, plastic sets will be inexpensive, but their durability is not very long, and they are generally not very aesthetic. Very popular garden furniture are those made of rattan or wicker. Until recently, they were the only stylish alternative to regular plastic furniture, although they also have their weaknesses. Rattan and wicker are materials of natural origin and as such have certain limitations. Furniture made of them has very poor colors, and the color is susceptible to solar radiation and loses its intensity quickly. If they are not covered with a varnish coat, they easily absorb various types of dirt, and drink or coffee stains are difficult to remove and do not look aesthetically pleasing. Regular maintenance is also necessary.

Therefore, design specialists have developed a new material for the production of furniture, especially for outdoor use. Technorattan, because that's its name, is a polyethylene fiber or simply a synthetic resin. However, despite the fact that it is a plastic, furniture made of it is far from ordinary plastic. It is soft and velvety to the touch. Thanks to the appropriate composition, it is also completely resistant to moisture, UV rays and frost. It is also ecological. It limits the removal of wicker or palm trees from which rattan is produced and is completely recyclable. Its advantages also include a very rich color palette. Polyrattan furniture looks as stylish as rattan, and you only need a little water and a cloth to clean it.In Poland, poly rattan has started to appear recently, but in many European countries it is already quite common and popular furniture material. Therefore, it is worth investing more in a good quality product than replacing damaged furniture made of cheap plastic or not durable natural materials every two or three years.

What plants to plant on the terrace

When we choose the furniture, let's thinkhow to arrange the terrace to be full of greeneryPlants on the terrace must grow in containers, and their choice depends on the rest of the equipment. It is good to keep them in the same color tone as the furniture and other accessories. Let's use shades of one or two colors rather than completely different colors. The excess of colors tires the eyesight and is not conducive to relaxation. In addition, there is a risk that flashy colors will dominate the rest, including the garden. The containers can be ceramic, metal and plastic. The latter are the most practical and therefore probably the most popular as well.

How to arrange a terrace - planting plants

Plastic pots don't have to be sad or commonplace. Lechuza pots are the best example of this. These are very special and extremely ingenious plastic pots, mainly intended for outdoor use, but also perfect for apartments or offices. Their design is very interesting. It has an outer and an inner part in which we plant the plant. The inner container consists of a part for planting a plant and a water container. Special holes allow the substrate to be watered gradually, prevent the roots from submerging in the water and prevent their flooding. The screw, placed in the bottom of the water container, drains its excess to the outside (e.g. from rainfall), and the water level indicator allows you to control the amount.A plant in such a pot can be successfully watered once every few weeks ( depending on the size of the container and pot). They are very light, and with large sizes, we can install invisible wheels on the bottom of the pots, which makes it easy to move such a pot. The colors and design of Lechuza pots are extremely modern, elegant and rich, so there is a lot to choose from.

Lighting on the terrace

When we have taken care of the furniture and plants on our terrace, how to arrange the terrace so that it is nicely litAfter all, it's also nice to sit on the terrace in the evening. Of course, we can install classic electric lighting. However, it is worth enriching them with light coming from candles. So let's place some interesting candlesticks or hang lanterns under the ceiling. Their warm, yellow light will give our evening rest in the fresh air a completely new atmosphere. The whole can be additionally supplemented with various decorative accessories such as vases, pictures, bowls (e.g. for fruit from the garden) and a whole lot of others, depending on your imagination and preferences. Such a changed terrace will surely give us a lot of satisfaction and will allow for a very nice rest in a modern and friendly environment.
