If we missed the autumn planting period for roses, we can now plant varieties grown in containers. The most important is a sunny and airy position.Using the example of a bush rose of the 'Gartenträume' variety, we present the steps and rules that must be strictly followed during planting.
1. The equipment needed for planting roses will be found in any garden. The most important thing is a solid spade. You will also need a watering can, a bucket of water, and leather gloves. Substances which improve the quality of the soil are often necessary.
2. The bath causes the rose root ball to be fully saturated with water. The pot should remain in the bucket until the air bubbles stop appearing.Prepare the planting place while the bush is soaking.
3. The planting hole should be approximately twice the size of the lump in the container. The roses have deep roots, so the bottom of the hole should be additionally loosened with a spade. This is necessary when the ground is heavily compacted.
4. The root ball should be removed from the pot carefully so as not to damage the delicate young roots.Plants kept in containers for a long time create a dense weave of roots. This layer should be cut off to facilitate the plant growth into the substrate.
5. The bush is planted at such a depth that the upper surface of the root ball is level with the ground. Note: Container roses are often grafted above the root ball. The bushes should be planted deeper, so that it is approx. 5 cm below the ground.
6. The soil above the roots should be tapped hard. The dike keeps the water around the bush and allows for optimal watering.Fertilization can be dispensed with, because the roses need a nursery supply for a year. When the soil is infertile, its upper layer can be enriched with humus.
7. Solid watering ensures good root contact. In addition, it causes silting up of any voids in the ground. When watering, do not sprinkle the leaves, because moisture allows for the rapid development of fungal diseases.
In the case of bare-rooted roses, the thickened base of the shoots can be easily recognized.Roses in containers need to be examined more closely, because this place is usually covered with soil. Both types of roses should be planted so that the grafting site is at a depth equal to the width of 2-3 fingers (approx. 5 cm) ). The shallower one is in danger of freezing. Deeper planting hinders the development of new shoots. The pole above the hole makes it easier to determine the correct depth.
The arch for creepers is a classic element of the arrangement. In order for it to serve us long, it is necessary to provide it with a solid foundation.
1. You can buy a rose arch in elements for assembly at a garden center or on the Internet, e.g. this green varnished model made of steel bars.Simple tools are needed to connect parts of the structure, such as pliers, flat wrench, screwdriver.
2. We will connect the individual parts of the arch quickly with the use of selected tools.
3. Place the arch in the designated place. If it does not meet all the requirements, there is still time to change.
4. It takes a little more work to make the foundation. It should ensure a strong and stable fixation of the arch, also in strong gusts of wind.It can be a plastic sewage pipe 50 cm long and 10-15 cm in diameter.
5. Fill the foundation pipes halfway up with several centimeters thick layers of cement mixture, tamping each with a stake. Pour water over the dry mortar.
6. We put the bow rods in the tubes. We check the level and plumb of the structure.Stiffening supports are often needed. We fill the mortar to the top edge of the pipes.
After the concrete has solidified, plant roses.
