We are planting
If we have stored geraniums, fuchsia, long-stemmed verbena, lanthanum and other plants that do not winter in the ground, we can prepare seedlings from them in early March.Cut the tops of the shoots (approx. 10 cm long and at least two nodes) and place them in a container with a moist mixture of peat and sand. Place the seedlings in the substrate at the depth of 1-2 cm and cover the container with foil.We provide them with a temperature of 20 ° C and a bright place. Once the cuttings have taken root, we transplant them one at a time into pots.
Nice branching
Young geraniums, fuchsia and other plants propagated in February with cuttings will branch out better if their tops are removed.
Hanging containers with plants, e.g. wire baskets in a plastic coating, are an effective decoration of balconies, terraces and gardens. Less common are hanging wicker or wire baskets, made by artisans. We line the openwork containers with moss, coconut fiber or jute, and then put a plastic foil on it, in which we cut drainage holes at the bottom.
Pour a layer of soil on the foil, place plants of one or more species and sprinkle enough substrate around and between them so that the layer is level with the height of the root clumps of the planted plants and is 2.5 cm below the upper edge of the basket.
As hanging containers, we can also use old colanders, sieves and various vessels, e.g. small galvanized watering cans or buckets, in the bottom of which we drill holes to drain excess water.
NThe least aesthetic, but the cheapest are plastic pots. Many plants look beautiful in hanging containers, including: petunias, geraniums, sprinkles, pansies, lobelia, diascias, verbena, kurdybank ivy.
