PiO: problems with plants with exceptional flowers

Weakly flowering imperial crown

P: I'm looking for help. Some plants in my garden bloom very poorly. I have a problem mainly with imperial crowns, which do not bloom at all, even though I have transplanted them to a new place.

O: The imperial chessboard is replanted every 3-4 years. Repotting too often slows down flowering. The bulbs are dug up in June, when the leaves dry on the plant.Stored bulbs should be protected against drying out by covering them with moist peat or sand.It is best to plant them immediately in a new place.

The imperial crown prefers windshielded positions, where the sun only shines until noon. The substrate should be permeable and rich in humus, with a neutral pH. Due to its strong growth, the plant should be fertilized annually with a thin layer of compost or well-decomposed manure.

The imperial crown blooms at the turn of April and May, therefore it often falls victim to late frosts. If the checkerboards are planted too densely, it may also cause this plant to fail to bloom. The optimal seedling for a checkerboard is 25 cm.

Thorny Kleome and Klerodendron

P: I am asking for information on the care of plants that are rather rarely bred in Poland. We are talking about Kleome thorns and clerodendrons.

O: Cleome spiny Cleome spinosa is an annual shrub with very fast growth. It comes from the subtropical regions of South America. Reaches a height of 1.2 m. It blooms for a long time until frost. It is suitable for flower beds and cut flowers, as the flowers remain stable for up to 2 weeks. It spreads by itself, but then it is difficult to predict where it will grow. Zebrane seeds are sown for a warm inspection in February, March, and into the ground, for a sunny position, at the end of May.

Klerodendron Clerodendron thomsoniane is a climbing shrub native to West Africa. In its homeland it grows to a height of 3 m. From October to February it requires strict rest at 10-12 ° C and a bright room (it should also be dried). The plant then loses its leaves. In spring, the old shoots are pruned, causing the lush growth of new, abundantly blooming. The plant should be provided with a moist substrate during the growing season.

In summer, the stand must be bright and warm, with high air humidity - it requires frequent sprinkling.During the growing season - from March to October - the clerodendron is fed with fertilizers for flowering plants, but with a slightly reduced donor than recommended by the producer. The plant should be transplanted into a clay soil every year.
