Drying continued
Such flower, Helichrysum, dry beetle, gilders or lonas - these annuals that bloom in July are perfect for dry bouquets. They require traditional drying and, due to their dry nature, can be quickly placed in a vase.
Last fertilization
In July, for the last time this season, we should solidly fertilize trees and bushes with multi-component fertilizers (dose up to a maximum of 10 dkg / m2).Performing the treatment at a later date would adversely affect the lignification of the shoots.Remember to water the plants after fertilization.
Water and mow the lawn
High summer temperatures and the accompanying drought severely dry up lawns, especially those established this season or not equipped with an automatic irrigation system. Regular lawn care means not only mowing the turf, but also watering it regularly and feeding it with fertilizers intended for lawns.
During drought the grass should not be mowed too short - it is enough to leave the blades at a height of 5-6 centimeters.Water a strongly dry and yellowed lawn with a low intensity stream, mow it low and fertilize with nitrogen only when it turns green.
Summer apple pruning
When planning your July duties in the orchard, it is worthwhile to prioritize the pruning of apple trees grafted on vigorously growing sleepers. This treatment will make the ripening apples color better. During the treatment, we remove the excess of strong vertical growths from the crown of the tree.We leave shorter shoots, bending downwards, about 30 centimeters.
Stems with growing fruit are shortened above the 4-5th leaf. There should be at least 3 weeks between pruning and harvesting, which means that we start pruning with the varieties that bear fruit in the second half of August.
Cutting cherries
When we harvest cherries in July, we start cutting trees of these species at the turn of July and August. This is the best time to avoid bark and wood diseases during cutting.
Cherries should be cut moderately hard, removing the branches that make the crown excessively dense. The main task of cutting is to loosen the crown and reduce the size of the whole tree. When cutting younger specimens, remember to shorten or remove the strongest shoots in order to extend the branches.
Cherries, on the other hand, require more intensive pruning, especially in 7-8 years old cases.First, get rid of the oldest overlapping branches, as well as those dangling, crossing or broken. For some specimens, also trim the top and branches.
Walnut cutting
July is also the right moment for corrective cutting of the walnut crown. First of all, we cut out branches that are dry or damaged by frost. It is also worth getting rid of overgrown branches that interfere with the shape of the crown. If you want to get a stem form with a long guide, remember to remove the lowest-growing shoots.
Maintenance work
During the growing season, the vegetable constantly requires our attention. The growth of vegetables is accompanied by the rapid development of weeds, and the plants themselves are additionally exposed to heat and drought. First of all, the cultivated plants should be watered systematically, the inter-rows should be moved and weeded.
When moving the soil, try to gently hammer the tools (3-4 centimeters), otherwise we can damage the shallow roots, which are the domain of many vegetable plants. The collected remains and weeds can still be useful - throw them on the compost.
Cultivation under cover
Too high temperature in the tunnels may contribute to many undesirable effects, incl. inhibition of plant growth, disturbances in pollination of flowers and increased susceptibility to diseases.Remember to ventilate greenhouses and foil tunnels regularly, as well as water and fertilize indoor plants.Do not forget about shading plants with lime or white non-woven fabric.
