Miniature rosefor growing in a pot is one of the novelties that appeared in our homes not so long ago. Potted roses captivate with their delicacy and abundance of flowers in red, pink, white or yellow. They can be grown both in the apartment and on the balcony, terrace and in the garden. Here's whatcare for miniature roses should look likeand whatvarieties of miniature rosesare the most interesting.

Miniature roseis a hybrid rose, descended from Rosa chinensis Minima. The plant does not grow very large and usually does not exceed a height of 40 cm. Many varieties of potted roses can bloom in spring or summer, and many of them repeat flowering continuously from May or June until October.
Miniature roses, due to the fact that they are sold in pots and taken home, need to be cared for a bit unlike garden roses. In apartment , miniature roses require a brightposition, well-lit, but without the scorching sun. In summer, they can be used as decorations on balconies and terraces.
A miniature pot rose should have a moderately moist substrateand frequently sprinkled leaves to prevent them from falling and prolong flowering of the plant.Fertilization of miniature roseshould take place every 2 weeks from March to August. Ideally, plants in pots should be watered with liquid fertilizer diluted with water. To avoid chlorosis, i.e. weaker staining of leaves, it is worth using a multi-component fertilizer enriched with microelements, such as, for example, liquid fertilizer for roses with Target microelements.

Like garden roses, a miniature rose also requires a dormant period and will begin to lose its leaves in the fall. Our readers very often askwhy a rose in a pot withersIt is worth knowing that if it takes place after the plant has faded, usually in autumn, it is a natural phenomenon related to the plant's winter dormancy. If we want to overwinter such a plant and enjoy its beauty again in spring, we need to provide suitable conditions for a miniature rose.
To overwinter a miniature rosein autumn, after the leaves have fallen, move the plant to a cool, frost-free room.Ideally, it should be a bright room with a temperature of 0 to 7 ° C. During this time, the plant is watered much less, just enough to prevent the soil from drying out completely. Under such conditions, a miniature rose must spend at least 2 months, but of course this period may be longer. In February, the miniature rose is moved to a room with a temperature of up to 15 ° C, and after resuming growth, gradually adjust the plant to normal room temperature.

A perfect place for wintering a miniature rosewill be a greenhouse, porch or a cool orangery. If we do not have such a room, we can winter a miniature rose on the balcony or plant it with a pot in the garden. Outside, the shoots of the plant should be wrapped with white winter agrotextile. If the rose is pitted in the garden, a mound of compost, peat or garden bark should be built at the base of the plant to protect the roots from freezing.
If we winter a miniature rose on the balconythe pot should be insulated by covering it with polystyrene (remember to put polystyrene not only on the sides but also on the bottom of the pot) and tying the whole with string so that the wind does not take away light polystyrene. The pot can also be placed in a cardboard box filled with sawdust or pieces of gas cut, which will provide an insulating layer. The shoots are wrapped with agrotextile, as in the case of wintering a miniature rose in the garden. The plant should be wrapped several times, because the miniature rose is much less frost-resistant than traditional roses planted in gardens.
At the end of the wintering period, , before the miniature rose starts growing again and leaves , it is worth transplanting it to fresh soil and - if necessary - to a larger pot. The necessity to choose a larger pot can be noticed after removing the rose from the old pot, if it is clearly visible that its roots already fill the pot almost completely or even outgrow it, trying to get out, e.g.through the holes in the bottom of the pot. However, let's try to make the new pot slightly larger than the previous one (the average one is only about 2 cm larger).
A rose grown in a pot should be replanted at least every 2 yearsSuitable for this plant there will be ordinary universal soil or soil for potted flowering plants. When transplanting a miniature rose, remember to put a few centimeters of drainage at the bottom of the pot (it can be pebbles or a perfect expanded clay aggregate for this purpose).

Miniature rose, after the first year of cultivation at home, can also be permanently transplanted into the garden. If the plant has wintered in a frost-protected room, we can only transplant it into the garden in mid-May, when the risk of frost is over. The miniature rose will look great in a rock garden, in a recreation corner or on a terrace. It should always be a sunny and quiet place (sheltered from the wind). As a result, it will be warm enough for a little hardy miniature rose. If the miniature rose will winter in its permanent place in the garden in the following years, remember to carefully protect the plant from snow and frost in autumn.
Multiplication of the miniature roseis extremely simple and generally does not cause any problems, even for amateurs. For this purpose, from March to May, we take apical cuttings with one leaf and plant them in a moist mixture of peat and sand. Place the pots with the seedlings in a dark place with high air humidity.
Varieties of miniature roses have been bred a lot. Among them there were alsominiature climbing roses , which, however, are quite rare (they are suitable for growing on porches and in containers on balconies, with various supports and trellises. However, here are some typicalminiature roses for pottingat home. Particular attention should be paid to those highly frost-resistant and disease-resistant roses such as powdery mildew and rose leaf black spot. These roses, after home growing in a pot, will be successfully transplanted into the garden. Here are 7 of my favoritesminiature rose varieties :
