Hemerocallis daylily 'Stella de Oro'

Hemerocallis daylilies are considered one of the most valuable garden perennials. They are characterized by abundant flowering, high foliage persistence, longevity, and are also very easy to grow.Among the numerous varieties of daylilies, 'Stella de Oro' deserves special attention, a dwarf form with an exceptionally long flowering period.

This is a perennial with short rhizomes and bulbous thickened roots. In early spring, smooth light green leaves grow from the ground, forming dense clumps about 30 cm high. Compared to traditional varieties, they are short and flexible. The compact habit and the juicy, intense green of the arched leaves are only a foretaste of the impressive appearance of the plants during the flowering period. The inflorescence shoots emerge at the beginning of June, they are not too long and reach the inflorescences just above the leaves, to a height of about 30-40 cm.

The impressive buds develop surprisingly large, yellow-gold, funnel-shaped flowers composed of six broad perianth tepals. The edges of the petals are slightly wavy. A single flower usually lives only one day, which is why the English call daylilies - daylilies. The Latin name Hemerocallis comes from the Greek words meaning "beautiful" and "day". Both names may suggest that the plants will finish flowering quickly.Meanwhile, contrary to all suggestions, 'Stella de Oro' blooms practically continuously, almost until the end of August, systematically creating new inflorescence shoots with numerous buds.
