Four years ago I changed my flat in a block of flats into a quite large modern house. Three acres of a city plot on 30 ares of land around the new house. Back then, the garden existed only in my imagination. There was debris and excavations around the house. I was wondering how to get rid of all the weeds and brushwood that grew there. A simple splicing would not be enough. In addition, the house was a mess. Before that, there was a warehouse here and there were a lot of stones around. They were brought to harden the ground.
Recycled stones
I was eager to clean up. The job was not easy. It took me many hours to select stones.Step by step, I was cleaning the soil of them and stacking them behind the house until a huge stone pile grew quickly. The time has finally come to plant the first plants: ornamental shrubs, fruit trees and flowers. Soon my dream rose garden was created.
Stone rivers - a way to deal with weedsDespite all the work done, the area began to overgrow again. At first I didn't know what to do, but I remembered about the stones I collected two years ago. Somehow, there was never time to get them out. And now there is an opportunity to put them to good use. I started to create a stone base. Arranged among the plants, on the foil intended for this purpose, they created beautiful, orderly flowerbeds. In this way, stone rivers with a unique appearance were created!
Important foilTo prevent the stone streams from becoming overgrown with weeds, the bottom must be covered with foil. I didn't do it before and it was a mistake. I started laying the first stone bed in the fall. It's good that I didn't finish this work, because in the spring everything was overgrown with weeds and grass again. I collected the stones again, this time I unfolded the foil and it is much better. Only single weeds cut through it.
Advantages of litter made of stones
Such a stone substrate not only helped me deal with weeds, but also exposed the plants. Conifers are especially attractive on my atypical discounts. They are beautifully green among stone streams. Now, taught by experience, I create various types of stone beds among my plants, but with the use of foil. Finally, the garden takes shape, although I still have a lot to do. I also plan to put stones with a pond, which was created - you could say - at the outlet of the drainage pipes.
