One cannot pass by summer flowers indifferently. We can see their extraordinary lushness and charming colors from afar.It is difficult to choose the most beautiful plant, because they all tempt with their splendor. When we have a dozen or so pots with geraniums, nemeses, Million Bells and lobelia in a shopping cart, we often feel tempted to reach for a few other plants.
We are delighted with new surprises every year. Until the beginning of the flowering season, unknown species and varieties appeared yesterday. The blue scewola amazes with its varieties with white and pink flowers, the bacopa blooms blue, and the geranium flaunts with flowers that resemble tiny florets. Spherical gomphrena, little-known butterfly and angelonia are waiting to be discovered.
In recent years, natural arrangements with idyllic charm have become more and more popular.Apart from annual plants, you can also choose potted perennials, such as cosmos up to 50 cm high or fragrant cloves, which are on the terrace they will conjure up the aura surrounding the farmhouseSome, such as the common wax and the fragrant Calamintha Nepeta scrub, are also an attraction for bees.
Containers for plants do not have to be new. When there are no pots, a larger group of plants can be planted in a well-worn galvanized tub with a drilled drain hole or in a large wicker basket lined with foil. Put parsley, sage, chives in clay pots taken out of the closet, which can be freely rearranged. We fill the containers with a full-fledged substrate, and enrich the soil for flowering plants for many weeks with long-acting fertilizer. Remember that the containers must have holes in the bottom to drain excess water.
Thanks to fresh, original solutions, a seating corner on the terrace can gain a unique look. Here are some easy-to-follow ideas.
Two scaffolding for climbers made of birch trunks connected by a grid of steel bars.Combined with wooden boxes for plants, they will become extremely effective curtain walls. For each box, cut two birch trunks to a fixed length. We place them in the box angles and fasten them with screws. Cut the bars of the grating with metal shears and fix it with upholstery staples.
The boxes are covered with thicker foil and filled with a substrate for flowering plants. We plant climbing roses, clematis or even annual climbers in them.Plant perennials, herbs or summer flowers on the remaining free space.
You can still sow summer flowers, such as marigolds or mixtures of different species, until the end of May. You can find many different varieties of annual plants in garden stores. An attractive place for them may be a galvanized tin bathtub bought at an antiques market.Remember to drill a drain hole in the bottom, which is covered with pieces of broken pots. The bottom of the bathtub is covered with a thin layer of expanded clay, and on it we sprinkle soil for flowering plants. Cover the scattered seeds with a thin layer of soil and carefully water them.
A small raised rebate with a shelf can be assembled by yourself. First, trim the legs from square timber (e.g. 8x8 cm) and two longer and shorter boards per box (approx. 25 cm wide) and a shelf (approx. 12 cm wide).Fasten the boards to the legs with screws. To the boards from the inside, we screw the strips supporting the bottom of the boxes.Cut the bottom plates to size and cut out the corners for the legs.We attach the bottoms to the battens. Screw rollers (two or four) to the bottom of the legs. We line the plant box with foil.
