We tie the bushes

Wet and heavy snow lying on spherical and columnar forms may expose these plants to splitting.Any problems may be solved by tying a columnar plant with a string that holds the shoots. Plants with a spherical shape should not be tied, however, and shake off the snow immediately after it rains.

We cover the plants

Coverings for winter require especially bulbs and some perennials - even biennial plants. We start covering when the ground freezes to a depth of at least three centimeters. Various organic materials are suitable for the covering material - for example leaves, but also those produced artificially.

We check stored plants

Systematic browsing in winter requires the underground parts of plants stored in cellars. The vast majority of them winter best at 5-10 ° C, with not too high air humidity. This rule does not apply to however, tiger bulbs that require a lower temperature (2-5°C) and hymenoptera and acidenters, bulbs of these plants that require high temperatures, around 15-17° C.

The bead corms and tubers of tuberous begonia also require special care, and should be kept in constantly moist sand or peat.Throw away all damaged or rotting organs.

Sad

Trunks bleaching

We recommend that you use the warmer December day for initial whitewashing of trunks and thick bases of fruit trees. This treatment will protect the trees against gangrene, formed by the temperature difference between day and night.Particular attention should be paid to the southern side of the trunks, this is where the bark heats up the most during sunny days.

Fruit also needs to be checked during winter storage. We throw away all rotting apples and pears. The fruit should be stored at a temperature of 0-6 ° C, with a humidity of 85-90%.It is therefore important to ventilate the room and put a bucket of water in it.If the temperature is below the recommended temperature, cover the boxes with cardboard.

Vegetable

Cleaning and cultivation work

The beds from which we harvested vegetables at the end of the season are cleaned by removing plant residues. Then we lime the soil and spread the manure, scatter potassium-phosphorus fertilizers and dig the soil.We perform the liming treatment every 3-4 years, this frequency allows us to obtain and maintain the pH at an acceptable level for many vegetables - pH 6.5.

Note, lime fertilizer should not be used together with manure, this mixture causes nitrogen loss. We recommend that you use these fertilizers alternately.
