Tilandsja Tillandsia is a genus of many very original species of plants from the bromeliaceae family, highly diversified in terms of structure, originating from tropical and subtropical regions of Central and South America. Most of them are epiphytes that grow on trees, walls, roofs, and in cities even electric wires.
They absorb water and nutrients through the leaves, and their short and strong roots only serve to attach to the substrate.Only dust from the air and occasional rainfall are enough for them to live.Other species live in more or less humid forests, where they are an impressive green cover for trunks and branches.
One of the most interesting species is Tillandsia usneoides, which forms hanging, threadlike, greenish-gray shoots with short gray leaves with fine hairs. The plant has no roots, extracts water and food with hairs from rainwater and fog.Requires high air humidity and substrate, and high temperature (in winter 15-18ºC).
