A home tree should be a family friend for many years. It used to be the guardian of the house, now it is primarily an important element of the garden arrangement. And that is why it should also stand out from the surroundings in terms of size.
However, due to the size of most modern home gardens, trees can grow very quickly beyond the boundaries of the plot.Fortunately, today we can choose trees from a large group of varieties whose crowns grow either very slowly or reach not very large.
When choosing a tree, the first criterion is the location of the garden towards the sides of the world.Very often the front yard is located on the northern side of the house. Here, in low sunlight conditions, holly, laurel and frost-resistant olive grows perfectly.Spherical maple or rowan (rowan) grows well in a semi-shaded place, while weeping birch and columnar cherry like sunny locations.
The selection of the tree also depends on the substrate. In fresh soil, always at least slightly moist, a rowan tree with a round crown and a spherical marsh oak may grow. The lack of moisture in the substrate does not disturb the spherical robinia and the willowleaf pear.
The distance from the house to the street or the neighbor's plot should also be taken into account. We need to assess whether the front garden will fit a tree whose round crown will grow to a diameter of 6 meters, or only a columnar form with a maximum width of 2 meters.
We should also remember that the large crown of the tree can significantly obscure the windows that let the light into the house. Taking such an eventuality into account, let's choose a rather small plant in the form of a tall tree, e.g. a very pretty willow 'Hakuro Nishiki' with motley leaves. When choosing a tree, you should not forget about the leaves.
Most species shed their leaves in autumn, but holly or laurel leaves in high-growing form are green all year round.Early growing ginkgo cherries or long-lasting leaves have an advantage over catalpa which comes to life late after winter and loses its leaves quite early in the fall.
In addition to flowers in spring or patterned leaves in summer, the autumn colors are also an advantage of trees. Some, such as spherical amber, delight with wonderful colors of leaves.Others, e.g. apple tree decorative, with beautiful fruits. These features should also be added to the list of advantages of our dream home tree.
In front gardens, trees are often planted in a flower bed, which may cause new problems. The root system of a large plant does not always tolerate the close proximity of perennials and grasses growing around the trunk.Trees with a heart or pile root system usually tolerate planting well with small species.
On the other hand, flat and shallow roots, such as spherical maple, have a lot of delicate roots just below the ground surface that do not like contacts
with the roots of other plants. In this case, plantings around the trunk are not completely impossible, but very difficult to do.
With good soil conditions, rather minor problems may appear after planting a decorative apple tree, willowleaf pear tree,
as well as trees with a spherical crown: catalpa, oak, amber and ginkgo.
