June plant protection

There is a preparation for pear rust!

This is very good news for everyone who has been observing with concern the increasing severity of pear rust in recent years.

The first visible and characteristic symptom of this disease are large, bright, yellow-orange spots on pear leaves appearing in June. Then, on the lower side of the leaf blade, in the place of the spots, gray, convex clusters of spores of the fungus are formed, visible to the naked eye. Infected leaves fall. As soon as you notice the first symptoms on the leaves, Zato 50 WG should be applied immediately. It is highly effective in combating rust and other diseases of fruit plants, including highbush blueberry. Its mechanism of action is multifaceted.

While reading this article, some security measures may be withdrawn from sale or replaced with new ones. In this case, we recommend that you contact the manufacturer and obtain information about the substitute for a given preparation.

Works on both the upper and lower sides of the leaf blade.Additionally, the active substance of the preparation spreads by diffusion in the gas phase on the surface of the leaves, binding to the surface layer of waxes and partial deep action combined with movement in the intercellular spaces. Thanks to this, the preparation has the ability to penetrate into hard-to-reach places on the plant, which increases its effectiveness.Another positive feature of Zato 50 WG is its high resistance to being washed off by rain - it is not washed off even by a 40 mm rainfall.

Powdery mildew on strawberry

The powdery mildew of Spharotheca macularis is an increasing problem for strawberry hobbyists.Symptoms of this mildew appear practically on all organs of strawberries.Initially, they appear on the leaves in the form of a white, powdery coating. Then the mycelium grows into shoots, flower buds and flowers. Infected organs die prematurely. In the event of the first symptoms, treatment with Domark 100 EC should be performed.

Dangerous plum cyst

Under this name, there is a disease that more and more often affects cultivars of plums and those growing wild, e.g. mirabelle plum. The disease is caused by the fungus Taphrina pruni.Symptoms of the disease appear only on fruits, most often just after flowering.Infected fruits are overgrown, strongly elongated and flattened. The skin with which they are covered is lighter than that of he althy fruit. There is a delicate matte coating on its surface. There are no pips inside the plums and their flesh is leathery and tasteless.

Most infected fruits rot and fall off. Only a few dry up and remain on the tree until spring. The fungus hibernates in the form of spores in the crevices of the bark, on bud scales and in dried fruit.Chemical control consists in spraying trees in the leafless period, shortly before breaking the leaf buds, with Syllit 65 WP. It is also advisable to collect and remove the cysts remaining on the tree.

Leaf spots of ornamental plants

Mushrooms of the genus Alternaria are the cause of leaf blotches in ornamental plantsDark spots appear on the leaves, and on their surface there are concentrically arranged zones resembling wood rings. Infected leaves prematurely die and fall off. The fungus hibernates on infected plant debris, so the treatment must be performed as soon as the first symptoms on the leaves are noticed. For this purpose, you can use the following preparations: Rovral Aqua Flo 500 SC or Signum 33 WG.

Yellow sticky boards

We have been able to buy yellow sticky boards in shops for some time now, thanks to which they appear more and more often in our apartments and on balconies. Their yellow color attracts most of the pests found on ornamental plants, while the glue makes the insect unable to free itself from the trap. These types of traps can be used in apartments and on balconies and to some extent reduce the population of pests without the use of plant protection products.

Scrolls on trees

Scrolls are caterpillars of butterflies from the leafy family. They are common in orchards and home gardens, causing great damage in some years. From May to August, the caterpillars of these moths usually feed on the leaves intertwined with yarn. They bite holes in curled leaves, and sometimes also in flower buds and fruit. The eggs hibernate on the shoots or the caterpillars in the shafts.

The caterpillars are yellowish to brown in color, and their body is approximately 8-15 mm long. The head is darker than the rest of the body. After the trees bloom, the larvae pupate in the bushes or on the bark. Adult insects are butterflies with the color of their wings in various shades of gray.Combating leaf rollers and other caterpillars on apple and pear trees involves performing a chemical treatment at the moment of noticing the first caterpillars with Karate Zeon 050 CS or Spintor 240 SC. If the caterpillars are few, they can be harvested by hand.

The active substance of Spintor 240 SC are the so-called spinosins, which are natural products obtained by fermentation of Saccharopolyspora spinosa. The active substance prevents the pests' nervous system from functioning properly, and the symptoms of the agent appear in the first several minutes after the treatment. The preparation is selective, i.e. it is not harmful to the beneficial organisms in the orchard.

Cherry leaves stains

The fine leaf blotch of Blumeriella jaapi stone trees occurs primarily on cherries. As early as at the turn of May and June, small, red, quickly brown spots appear on the leaves. The number of spots increases quickly, they merge with each other, and the affected tissue dries up.Leaves turn yellow and fall prematurely, which reduces their resistance to low temperatures in winter and has a significant impact on next year's fruiting. The trees should be sprayed immediately after flowering with Topsin M 500 SC.

In June also:

- We perform treatments against the dangerous scab of apple trees.

- We use pheromone traps to determine the flight dynamics of moths, apple fruit and plum fruit. If necessary, we perform chemical treatments (Calypso 480 S.C.)

- Remove strawberries infested by gray mold from the bushes and take them out of the garden. During flowering, the bushes can be sprayed with the use of appropriate chemical preparations available on the market.
