Terrace made of sericite slate

Table of contents

Sericite slateis formed from clay shale as a result of a change in physicochemical conditions. Among these slates, apart from mica, sericite and biotite, there are small quartz lenses and fine garnet lenses. The color of sericite slate is varied - from honey brown with quartz lenses to gray with an almost metallic texture. You can build a rockery or a pond from larger stones. Thin boards are used for cladding facades of buildings or fences. However, sericite slates are, above all, an excellent material for garden paths and terraces.

Sericite slate paving

A terrace made of sericite slateis built by placing a layer of foundation on a properly prepared substrate, which is a 10-20 cm layer of dry concrete. It should be evenly spread over the entire surface of the terrace and compacted with a compactor. Sericite slates are placed on it in such a way that the individual elements adhere tightly to each other and there are no gaps between them. Dry concrete used as a substructure will harden under the influence of moisture from the ground and air.
A terrace made of sericite slateshould have a 1.5-2% slope towards the outer edges so that rainwater can easily drain off it. If the terrace is adjacent to two perpendicular walls of the house, it must have a slope in two directions. The thickness of the downward layer at the thinnest point (at the edge) must not be less than 4 cm.
