A hedge of ałyczy. Beautifully showered with flowers in spring.
Ałyczais a popular name for the cherry plum (Prunus cerasifera). It is a tree that can grow up to 8-10 m in height in nature. In spring, in April, it is showered with beautiful, white and pink flowers, which is one of the greatest advantages of an alech hedge. Another advantage is the extremely high density of the hedge. The red fruits of the alchemy ripen around August and are similar in size to mirabelles. It is important that the Ałycza plum grows very quickly and rapidly. In the seasona hedge of algaecan grow even by 1 meter! We should also remember that the alchemy hedge is not only decorative but also useful, as it gives shelter for smaller birds.
Śliwa ałyczadoes not have too high habitat requirements. Preferably, it prefers a plump and humus soil, and is not fond of acidic soil. The site should be sheltered from winds and exposed to sunlight, because thenthe hedge of ałyczyis the densest. Alycha is resistant to drought, slightly less to frost. It is also worth knowing that even when the above-ground part freezes in an extremely frosty winter, the plant quickly bounces back from the roots.
If you want a typical defensiveAłycz hedge , cherry plum should be planted in two rows, and for low and wide hedges - in the so-called high five. When planting a hedge, you should plant 4 seedlings per linear meter in a row, so if you plant in two rows, then use 8 seedlings per running meter of the hedge. "
Beforeplanting algae on the hedge , all seedlings should be soaked in water for several hours. This treatment significantly increases the chances of all seedlings being accepted. We should also remember that if we bought bare-rooted alech seedlings (not in pots), then we have to plant them very quickly so that they do not dry out.
The planting hole for algae should be twice the size of the current root ball. Remember to pour organic material on the bottom, e.g. well-decomposed compost, which will fertilize the soil and improve its structure. Only in the well prepared in this way we put our alech seedling. The seedling should be buried to the same depth as it grew in the nursery or in a container. When you are doneplanting a hedge , water everything well. If the soil settles too much and a hole is formed around the seedling, fill the loss with soil to level the surface. We should also not forget that after planting, the entire hedge should be trimmed to a height of about 20 cm so that it begins to thicken! If we do not make the cut, the hedge will be loose and will start to bare from below.
As mentioned before, the ałycza hedge does not have too high requirements, therefore the care of an alech hedge is quite easy. If we take care of the appropriate position and substrate, furthercare of the hedgewill only be limited to fertilizing and cutting plants.
Fertilizing ałyczy
Let's tryfertilize a hedge of almondsonly with natural fertilizers, e.g.compost. Scatter the compost within the width of the hedge. If we want our hedge to be denser and grow faster, then the fertilization intensity can be slightly increased. Otherwise, fertilizing the plants in the spring is enough. If we want to use mineral fertilizers, a slow-acting compound fertilizer will be appropriate.

Cutting of almonds "
Ałycza is a species that responds very well to cutting. Hence, formed alchemy hedges look so good. The cut should be made immediately after planting to a height of about 20 cm. This will allow for branching from below and will affect the later density of the hedge.Cutting a hedge of algaein later years, cutting new shoots to half, thanks to which the hedge will become more and more denser.
Many people ask the questionwhen to cut a hedge from an ałycz hedge We cut a molded alech hedge twice a year, in June and August. After that, no more pruning should be done as the plant may freeze. We should also remember that a hedge of algae should be led in such a way that it slightly narrows upwards. Thanks to this, it will be more evenly sunlit, and thus the lower part will be greener and will not be bare.
When setting up an alech hedge, it is worth paying attention to its interesting varieties. Purple leaf varieties are available for sale: Pissardia and Nigra. The purpleałyczy hedgewill surely be an extraordinary decoration for any garden. You can also dare and make a mixed hedge of a variety with green and purple leaves. "
