Deters pests

There are many chemical pest control agents available today, but many gardeners still use folk recipes that include baking soda among others.

We most often use baking soda in the vegetable garden as aanti-antremedy. There are several simple ways to do it. First, you can prepare a soda-based liquid solution.

The recipe is simple: dissolve 2 tablespoons of baking soda in 2 liters of water and pour the mixture over the anthill. The second option is even simpler - sprinkle the anthill with dry soda.

Baking soda solution kills ants much better than dry product, as insects often just bypass the powder, making new paths.

Caterpillarsof butterflies ravage vegetable gardens and orchards. Particularly dangerous is the voracious larva of cabbage butter, which can destroy the entire future crop of cabbage.

To make a poisonous mixture for caterpillars, take 10 liters of water, add 3 tablespoons of baking soda (approximately 90 grams), 2 tablespoons of grated laundry soap, and (optional) 10 tablespoons of wood ash.Mix all ingredients thoroughly. To get rid of the caterpillars twice a day, in the morning and in the evening, spray the plants with the resulting solution every 3-7 days.

Drutowiecis a dangerous pest that destroys potato tubers and vine shoots. This insect can cause significant damage to crops. When planting potatoes, try putting a little less than half a teaspoon of baking soda into each well. This way you will effectively scare wireworms away, even for many years.

Aphids, mites and whitefliescan be easily and effectively combated using preparations based on soda.

Combine 1 teaspoon of baking soda with 1/3 cup of cooking oil. We measure out 4 teaspoons of this mixture and add it to 0.5 l of water. Spray the infected plants with this solution several times.

Prophylactically, we can also spray the plants with a mixture of baking soda (1 glass) with 2 liters of water and a few drops of cooking oil.

Getting rid of nakedsnailscalled slugs is not easy, because they are extremely resistant to all measures. To scare them away, it is enough to use dry soda or a soda-based solution (2 tablespoons of soda ash per 10 liters of water) to treat the paths on which they are moving.

Fights weeds

The chemical industry produces many herbicides. You can fight unwanted plants just as effectively with the use of environmentally friendly agents such as baking soda. To get rid of weeds in the beds, dissolve 2-3 tablespoons of baking soda in 10 liters of water. Water the crops with the resulting solution for several days.

Fights diseases and pests

Downy mildew

This disease caused by fungi affects all groups of crops. It is not easy to destroy powdery mildew, but also here we can use baking soda.

In 10 liters of water, mix 10 tablespoons of baking soda and a tablespoon of vegetable oil or liquid soap. Shake well. Spray the plants with the resulting solution twice a day in dry weather.

Phytophthora

Tomatoes are especially affected by this fungal disease. For spraying tomato bushes (the first time it should be done two weeks after planting the seedlings in the ground, then repeat it within a week), prepare the following solution.

Combine a glass of baking soda with 10 liters of water. Additionally, you can add a glass of any vegetable oil or 4 tablespoons of grated laundry soap to the mixture - thanks to this, the solution will stick better on the leaves and stems. This liquid can be used not only for tomatoes, but also all other plants susceptible to phytophthora.

Gray mold

This is another of the more common diseases of fungal origin. Most often it appears on strawberries, grapes, cabbage and roses. To prevent gray mold, prepare the following solution: Dissolve 4-5 tablespoons of baking soda in 10 liters of water. With this mixture, spray the infected plants several times, at intervals of 10 days.

Fungus diseases on the lawn

They appear most often with yellow and brown spots. Infected grass begins to dry and die. To combat fungal diseases on the lawn, spray the infected area several times with an ecological preparation that you can prepare yourself according to the recipe below.

In 3 liters of water, dissolve 3 teaspoons of baking soda, 1 teaspoon of wheat flour, 1 teaspoon of oil. In the second pot, boil the decoction of 1 tablespoon of black tea and 1 liter of water for a few minutes. Combine both solutions and use for spraying.

Soda as a multi-functional garden tool

The use of baking soda in the garden is not limited to the destruction of pests and plant diseases. This agent is versatile in use in the garden.

Soda for seed disinfection

Harmful microorganisms, pest eggs or larvae may persist on the surface and under the seed coat. You cannot plant such seeds, because the plants will get sick and die. To avoid this situation, seeds should be disinfected before sowing.

Dissolve a teaspoon of baking soda in a liter of water. Sprinkle the seeds on the moistened material and leave it for 5 hours.

Soda for soil deacidification

Too acidic soil is a common cause of disease and poor yielding of plants.

With the help of soda, we can first check the acidity of the soil. In a container, mix the soil and water until a mush is formed, then sprinkle with baking soda powder. If the mixture starts to foam and hisses, the soil is acidic.

You can also use soda to de-acidify the soil. To do this, add a small pinch of baking soda to each well when planting the plants to make the pH of the soil more alkaline.

Baking soda also eliminates the unpleasant smell of decaying compost or manure, is used to disinfect pots, prolongs the freshness of flowers in a vase and refreshes the appearance of leaves.
