Spider mite - why is it so dangerous?

Spider mites feed on plant juices, weakening them and affecting their condition. Their unique harmfulness is the rate of reproduction - one female spider mite can lay from 10 to 150 eggs. Spider mites are difficult to see with the naked eye, but it is not difficult to find them - these pests like to inhabit the underside of leaves, buds and young shoots. Thanks to their spider webs, they can quickly move around the plant, and also fly to plants growing nearby.

How to fight spider mites?

Is it possible to get rid of these pests in harmony with nature? You can, but you will have to put a lot of effort and patience into it, because they quickly adapt to the preparations and stop responding to them.

It is always best to focus on prevention. First of all, take care of hygiene and cleanliness in the garden.

- Wean the beds and remove plant debris from the inter-rows.

- When watering, do not forget to sprinkle the plants, the spider mites do not like high air humidity.

- Plant plants near your crops that produce insect-repellent substances, e.g. marigolds, chamomiles, onions or elderberries

Thanks to folk methods of combating spider mites, the use of chemical preparations can be avoided. For this purpose, we use commonly available plants, including those considered to be weeds, which arachnids do not tolerate.

Onion and garlic and spider mite fighting

When preparing the infusion for spraying, take 200 g of onion husks and pour 10 liters of hot water. We leave for 12 hours to infuse. Then add about 100 g of dishwashing liquid or gray soap to increase the adhesion of the liquid. The preparation is ready to use.

Garlic extract is easier to make. To do this, take 150 grams of crushed garlic and pour 10 liters of water. Leave for 24 hours, then spray the infected plants with the filtered preparation.

Dandelion infusion and extract

Dandelion is effective in combating spider mites. This herb can be found in meadows and wastelands, or dried in herbal stores and pharmacies.

To prepare an infusion of fresh herb, you need 500 g of leaves and pour 10 liters of hot water over them. After 2 hours, strain it and use it for spraying immediately.

Dandelion roots can also be used to fight arachnids. To prepare the extract, you need to take 20-30 grams of dandelion roots, crush them and pour a liter of water. Leave for 24 hours, then strain and spray the plants with the extract.

Decoction of cyclamen tuber

Saponins contained in cyclamen tubers have scientifically proven insecticidal properties. To prepare a decoction that fights spider mites, take 4-5 flower tubers and add 10 liters of water, then cook for 40 minutes. We put the decoction aside for 24 hours and we can spray the plants. After five days, the procedure should be repeated.

Horseradish infusion

Spider mites definitely don't like the smell of horseradish. To prepare a repellent, take 1 kg of horseradish roots and leaves, chop and add 10 liters of hot water. After 2 hours, strain and apply the obtained infusion by spraying the affected plants.

Potato leaf extract

You can try an infusion of potato leaves to combat the spider mite. To do this, pour 10 liters of water over 1 g of leaves and leave it for 2-4 hours. Then the strained decoction can be sprayed.

Tobacco decoction and infusion

The spider mite does not tolerate the smell of tobacco and leaves the plants quickly when sprayed with a tobacco-based solution.

To prepare the decoction, take 200 grams of tobacco leaves, pour 5 liters of cold water and leave for 24 hours. Then cook for 2 hours and drain. Dilute the obtained preparation with water in a ratio of 1: 1 and add a few drops of dishwashing liquid or gray soap.

Tobacco infusion is prepared by mixing 50 grams of powdered dried tobacco with 5 liters of hot water and leave it for 24 hours. Then filter the infusion and fill it with water up to 5 l, then make at least three times with an interval of 7 days.
