Plant bulbs worth planting in February! Check out our TOP5 plants

February is the right time to think about planting the first bulbs. We start a beautiful adventure with the new year with plants. Check which plant bulbs will surely enrich your garden.

Agapanthus

Agapanthus is a plant that feels good in sunny and sheltered places. The partial shade is also not a problem in growing. If we want to prevent rotting of the roots, it is worth placing a drainage made of expanded clay or gravel at the bottom of the pot.About 10 cm is enough. Fill the rest of the pot with soil for potted plants.

Liatra

Liatra spiked Liatris spicata comes from North America, where it grows in wet meadows. It is a perennial, the underground part of which is a rhizome composed of many tubers.Plants reach a height of 60-120 cm and have narrow butt-leaves and much shorter and narrower stem leaves, densely embedded in the lower part of a stiff and unbranched shoot.Since the liatra belongs to the Asteraceae family, its inflorescence there is a basket, but the plant consists of several dozen gathered in compact, cylindrical spikes, 15-20 cm long.

Eukomis

These plants like semi-shaded, well-drained, but moist positions, because even a slight water deficiency reacts with wilting of the leaves.Plant the bulbs at the end of April, depending on their size, to a depth of 10-15 cm. In autumn we have to dig them out and move them to a cool room (5-8 ° C).

Eukomisy form a few adventitious bulbs, but we can also successfully propagate them from leaf cuttings, especially in the case of hybrid varieties. The seeds of the species can be sown, but we must bear in mind that the plants obtained in this way will, unfortunately, only bloom after a few years.

Lily

The bulbs are 3 to 10 cm in size. Numerous glistening leaves grow out of them. Lilies can grow on one site for years, then gradually develop more and more inflorescences consisting of clusters of up to 30 flowers (sometimes more).Tall varieties can reach 200 cm, the lowest ones can only reach 30 cm.

G altonia

G altonia is an undemanding plant that grows well in sunny and warm places. If the inflorescences have faded, they must be removed - they do not look very attractive. The most common way to propagate it is to sow previously harvested seeds. It produces them in large quantities, so it is not a problem. Sowing should be done in February, in pots or boxes. Preferably in a room where the temperature of 19-20 degrees Celsius is achievable. Flowering begins in the second year of cultivation. The plant sown in this way should be moved to a permanent place to the ground around May-June.
