Harvesting early peas (Tip)

Table of contents

Peas are an annual plant, and the usable part are unripe pods and seeds. In growing, however, more and more often we reach for sugar varieties characterized by wide, fleshy pods, which can be eaten raw in small amounts.

They are very sweet, so they can be used as he althy sweets for our children. To enjoy the first harvests of early varieties in mid or late May as early as possible, we can now sow seeds.

Peas start to germinate even at 2-4 ° C, so we can sow them in peat-cellulose pots without fear.Only they are suitable for the production of legume seedlings, which are very susceptible to damage to the root system and difficult to regenerate.

Time to sow

In February, you can start producing seedlings of some vegetables: brassica, leafy vegetables, and at the end of the month also nightshades. If the weather conditions are favorable, vegetable seeds with a long germination period can be sown directly into the ground to start this process slowly. These include, for example, leaf and root parsley, parsnips and carrots.

In some regions of Poland, February is already marked by positive daytime temperatures. So we can easily start sowing pea seeds and other early vegetables into pots or frames.
