Challenge: narrow garden

Someone once said, "I can do anything if I know what I want." These words can also refer to the arrangement of a small and very narrow garden. The biggest problem is that we won't fit many different ideas on the surface we cover with one short glance.Next to the Mediterranean oasis, we will not plant wonderfully colorful perennials straight from the village garden.

First of all, because in this way we will not get a harmonious composition, but rather strongly contrasted dissonances. So it is worth considering, and even before the first digging of the spade into the ground, what our garden should look like.

Perfect tool sheds will facilitate work in a narrow garden

Let's start with general assumptions.Let's decide whether the garden should be arranged as a whole, or we should imagine dividing it into several separate parts - the so-called green rooms.Making a decision will help us to draw up a list of necessary and important elements, such as a terrace, gazebo, bench or other place to sit, a larger tree, arches for climbing plants or a raised bed.

We will see then how many ideas have accumulated, how many can be implemented and which should be abandoned. Finally, we make a basic plan of the garden, where we try to arrange the necessary elements. We move them similarly to the rectangles of furniture on the projection of the apartment while trying to arrange it.

The hedge, planted on the border and surrounding the garden on all sides, primarily protects the owners and their guests from prying eyes, provides privacy and helps to create an intimate atmosphere. The tree as a vertical dominant, more than any other element of the arrangement, emphasizes the spaciousness of the garden.

Too long plot can be optically shortened a bit by using plants with red leaves and flowers.Bright shades make the plan on which they grow seem closer to the observer.Blue flowers extend the distance, creating an illusion of distance.

Glamorous and beautiful green sculptures

On a small plot of land, magnificent garden "bonsai" occupy a special position. Shrubs formed in containers or planted in the ground, placed along a path, in a bed or even on a lawn, often significantly affect the appearance of the entire garden.Carefully shaped plants can be purchased in many tree nurseries and garden centers. It depends on our preferences whether we choose a living sculpture made of thuja, pine, yew, Japanese holly or boxwood.

The distances are shortened by various elements of the arrangement placed at the end of the plot, but clearly visible, such as arches for climbing plants, benches, garden sculptures. Long sections of the sides of the garden with one-width beds along them create a not very interesting picture.A more interesting result is the alternating arrangement of beds and groups of shrubs.

Even a tool shed at the back of the garden perpendicular to the bed can provide the effect of breaking the overly formal layout of the garden arrangement. ŁA gazebo doesn't have to occupy the farthest part of the garden. However, if we like this position the most, let's assume that it is the best.
