Many descendants of the so-called wild roses, such as the ruffled rose Rosa rugosa or the musk rose R. moschata, do not exceed a height of 150 cm and, in spite of the semi-double flowers, bear fruit abundantly. In the case of full varieties, through breeding work, the stamens are replaced with petals. They do not have pollination of flowers, so there can be no question of setting fruit.Fruiting is not possible even when we clean the bushes of faded flowers.
Fruiting roses have great processing value.Folk medicine has known for centuries how to use fruit, although it has only recently been discovered that it is nature's richest source of vitamin C. For comparison: 100 g of fruit can contain up to 3000 mg of this vitamin, citrus contains only 50 mg. Currently, fruit roses are massively cultivated on plantations, and the harvested fruit is used in the food and pharmaceutical industries.

Very rich in vitamin C is e.g. 'Konstancin' variety, fleshy fruit has the 'Ballerina', 'Robin Hood' and 'PiRo3' varieties. The fruits ripen in August and September (depending on the species). They are harvested when they are fully ripe and dry. They can be processed into preserves, juices, wines, but they can also be dried.
All fruit roses like sunny positions and are generally considered to be medium demanding. The 'PiRo3' variety and the Jundziłła rose are very frost-resistant, as is the wrinkled rose. The bushes grow best in well-drained soil, they do not tolerate alkaline soils containing calcium. The wrinkled rose, as a pure species, grows up to 3 meters in height.
If we want to keep it in check, we have to trim it in late winter. For cultivation in semi-shaded places, the 'Ballerina' musk rose is perfect, which can be easily arranged with flames and autumn asters.
It is important to keep a plant-free zone around the trunk, more or less within a radius of 60 cm, because the vicinity of some perennials can be quite a pain for roses. It is worth mentioning that fruits occupy an important place in the winter diet of many birds and rodents. In natural conditions, the so-called wild roses are found mainly in sunny places.
Very interesting arrangement effects are achieved by potting on balconies and terraces. The necessary minimum that must be guaranteed for the plants is, above all, an airy place in a luminous shade and a pot that is at least 60 cm high. Cold-sensitive R. banksiae is best grown in a greenhouse.
