Blue, like red, has many meanings. It symbolizes, among others spirituality, peace, inspiration, friendship, nobility (hence "blue blood"). It is the coldest color, associated with the sky, the sea, open space.It plays a similar role in the garden - it moves away and visually enlarges.In interiors, it calms you down. Pure blue is rarely found in the plant world.

The flowers of the beech leaf meconopsis are considered to be the ideal of blue. Few flowers with a color similar to this pattern appear in summer, even fewer in autumn. Most species with blue flowers bloom in spring. Onions and bulbous plants bloom the earliest: iris and veined iris, Greek anemones, squillies, sapphires, snow flakes, canines, hyacinths.

Somewhat later, forest perennials using the spring sun penetrating through leafless tree branches: ground cover, large-leaved bruner, graceful hepatica, some varieties of stemless primrose, lungwort.

Many blue flowers bloom in rock gardens: in March, Carpathian urnid, in April, flames (Canadian and awl), gentian (spring, stemless, narrow-leaved, Cluzius), eagle and fan-shaped, pasque-flower, and in May, a grasshopper, speedwells, Menzies' penstemon.In turn, the blue color of forget-me-nots and pansies is used on flowerbeds and balconies.

Blue inspirations

1. The 'Striped Beauty' spring crocus can be first grown inpots. After it fades, we drop it into the ground.

2. Spring garden in miniature with fragrant violets, miniature irises and sapphires in the lead role.

3. Buckets as casings are not a new idea. This time, pots with primroses were decorated with them.

4. Primroses bloom in various colors.The petals of this variety have a blue-violet color and very thin bright veining.Yellow eyes are an additional decoration of the flowers.

Regardless of the species and the place where blue flowers are planted, we should be aware that an excess of blue can tire.Although in the garden it is counterbalanced by soothing and refreshing greenery, nevertheless monochrome, blue-colored plantings can feel cool and a bit depressing.

That is why in the garden it is worth combining blue with others. The introduction of white will brighten the flowerbed without disturbing the blue.Even more interesting, but still very harmonious, will be a combination of pastel colors: blue with purple and pink. For lovers of brighter compositions, a good suggestion is to combine blue with yellow (narcissus) and tulip reds that appear frequently in spring.
