Wandy Vanda are unusual orchids from Southeast Asia. They are the favorite plants of the king of Thailand, and are also the most widely produced in this country. Many varieties from the blue wanda Vanda coerulea are suitable for growing in apartments. Their common feature is large, clustered flowers with characteristic veining or mottling.
The most famous are varieties with flowers with dark blue or purple patterns, but there are also varieties with pink, red or yellow flowers.Inflorescences are placed on quite long and densely leafy shoots.
Wandas are typical epiphytes, they form long roots covered with velamen - a tissue that retains water. In apartments, they are also not planted in the ground, but hung freely to ensure the airflow to the roots.Roots are numerous and may look unruly, but do not prune them as this adversely affects plant growth. If we provide the vandas with the right growing conditions, the plants will bloom up to 3 times a year.
Requires a fairly bright place, but not directly exposed to sunlight. The optimum temperature for growing in summer is 24-30 ° C, in winter it should be lower (18-22 ° C).The same applies to air humidity - in summer it should be around 80% and in winter around 50%.
Thanks to this, the maintenance of these plants when the air in the apartments is dry, becomes easier.Water the wandas by immersing their roots in soft (rain or filtered) water once every few days.
