It is not easy to prepare rhododendron seedlings by yourself. However, I believe that it is not difficult for someone who wants to.There are two ways to breed rhododendrons.
- The first is the preparation of splits. In spring or August, a 20 cm deep groove is dug near the bush. Then he bends the twig, puts it in the hole, and then covers it with soil. It is worth damaging the bark on the part of the shoot that will be underground and rubbing it generously with rooting.
- However, I prefer to use the second method. I cut cuttings from thin side shoots about 10-15 cm long.I remove the leaves, leaving four of them at the top. Then I remove a bark of 2-3 cm wide and sprinkle it with rooting. I put the seedling in a 10 cm pot filled with previously prepared peat. The ambient temperature of the stored seedlings should be between 20-24 ° C. You also need high air humidity, i.e. around 85-90%. I cover the pot with foil so that it does not touch the leaves of the plant and put it aside in a suitable place, e.g. a greenhouse or an inspection room. On warm days and in good weather, you can also place the seedling in a quiet and shaded place in the garden. Rhododendron rooting usually takes up to 3 months. It is easier to root small-flowered varieties.
