We breed anthurium

Table of contents

Anthurium is a herbaceous perennial with always green decorative leaves and ornamental inflorescences.Unfortunately, it "loses" leaves from the bottom rather quickly, which has a negative impact on its appearance - the green shifts to the upper parts of the shoots , exposing bare stems. In order to make anthurium look nice, it is worth rejuvenating it. For this, shoots, i.e. shoots growing at the base of the plant, are used.

They should be cut as close to the base as possible, keeping as many adventitious root buds as possible.Remove the lower leaves from the shoots, leaving only 2-3 of the topmost leaves. The shoot prepared in this way should be placed in a pot filled with substrate. It can be, for example, a peat substrate enriched with minerals.

Wrapping the pot with foil stretched over the sticks sticking out of the pot will provide the plant with high air humidity.Place the "wrapped" anthurium in a warm and well-lit (but not directly exposed to sunlight) place, eg on the windowsill of the east or west window.Optimum rooting temperature is 20-22 ° C. The appearance of the first leaves indicates rooting, then remove the foil.

Why do dark brown spots appear on anthurium?

Brown spots on anthurium leaves can be of different origins. Most often they are the result of improper care and sunburn. Anthurium prefers bright places, but not in direct sunlight. However, they can also be a symptom of fungal disease - anthracnose (round spots on leaves and flowers) or bacterial - bacterial anthurium blight (uneven spots with no clear edges). If the stains are high, consult an expert at your local garden center.
