"It is a great satisfaction to have fresh vegetables much earlier than they appear in stores"
At my placeworks gardeningdo not end with the arrival of autumn. Now is the time to take care ofearliest next yearharvest .
At the end of November, when the big frosts have not yet arrived, preparing the ground pod seed winterI have a dedicated, fenced with planks horizontally driven into the ground, a flower bed insunlitcorner of the garden These fences, sticking out of the ground fora dozencentimeters , serve as a support for old unnecessary windows, whichearly in spring protect sproutingalready plants from freezing.
At each rowI attach a bag of seedsto remember what grows where. When the days get warmer, I move the windows aside, but I always cover the bed at night with them again, so that the frosts do not destroydelicate seedlings .
The soil in thebed winteris slightly elevated compared to its surroundings. I made it so that the melting snow would not contribute torotting plantsstill hiding in the ground.

Thanks to the aforementioned treatments, we will see rapidly emerging plants in early spring |
At the turn of November and December, after digging up the soil and fertilizing with manure, I sow in the inspectoratecarrot ,parsley ,dillandgarlicand sometimes lettuce.Onion 7-year-oldiperennial parsley year to year, without any special treatments. I try to put the garlic first (even at the end of October) so that it has time to take root before the real winter comes. The remainingvegetablesare sown just before frost to a depth of 3 cm. I put them in the ground more densely than the ones sown in spring, as not all of them will germinate in thesedifficult conditions
Untilsowing winterI always buy frost-resistant seeds, preferably early varieties. I cover them with haulms collected from the field, dryfragments plantsordry branchesLater, I just keep my fingers crossed so that the coming winter is not too harsh on my plants.
Of course, the harvest is not always successful, but I assure all readers of the "Recipe for the Garden" that it is worth trying. I like to have my own vegetables a fewweeks earlierthan recommendedgardening calendarAfter harvesting winter vegetables, there is still time to grow seedlings in the same placelatecabbage ,cauliflower or someautumn flowers
