P:I am going to plant chrysanthemums in the cemetery again. Unfortunately, each time they rotted after more rain. Which variety will be the most durable?
O:Small-flowered chrysanthemums last longer than large-flowered ones. Small flowers will not accumulate rainwater, so they will not break under its weight and rot as quickly as the latter. In addition, small-flowered varieties transplanted into the ground have a chance to survive the winter. If left in pots, they will not survive the frost, and then they will have to be planted again.
P:I have a plot of land in an old forest on a hill. The soil is sandy and nothing grows on it. Additionally, rainwater runs off it immediately. How can I fix it?
O:First of all, the substrate should be supplemented with caries.
- For this purpose, we should add approx. 7 kg of compost per 1 m² of surface. This procedure is best done in early spring.
- Then, every 2-3 months, enrich the soil with new doses - 1-2 kg per 1 m² should be enough.
- At this time of the year, it is advisable to apply manure in the amount of 4-6 kg per 1 m².
The enrichment of sandy soil is labor-intensive and certainly not aesthetically pleasing, but the water conditions, soil structure and the amount of nutrients will improve significantly in the first year. We can also order ground clay and de-acidified peat - they will also improve the quality of the soil.
P:The plants in my garden do not grow well. I think it's a matter of poor soil. What is the best way to get a sample for testing?
O:We take 15-20 soil samples from randomly selected places in the garden (the larger the garden, the more samples). Here are the rules.
- We avoid molehills, places after fertilization, but also depressions into which rainwater flows.
-We do not collect samples after heavy rain or long drought.
- The soil sample should be dug up with a spatula, from a depth of 25 cm (approx. 2 cups).
- All the collected samples are placed in a bucket or wheelbarrow, and then carefully mixed.
- We take 0.5 kg from the obtained mixture and send it to the National Chemical and Agricultural Station, where the analysis of pH, macro- and microelements and other substances will be performed (additionally at the customer's request).
P:In my garden I try to use natural remedies. What fertilizers can I use in the fall?
O:Horse or cow manure is best, as they are purely herbivorous animals.Manure from pigs is not recommended.Feeding with natural fertilizer should be done by the end of November.
According to the regulation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, it cannot be used from December 1 to February 28. Autumn fertilization should be done on a cool and windless day. If we have heavy soil, we dig the manure 15 cm deep, if light - 20 cm.
Natural fertilizers in the form of pressed granules are available in garden stores. They are not as labor-intensive as self-prepared fertilizers. And most importantly, they do not emit a characteristic, intense smell.
P:I have been raising 3 chickens for a year. Can I use their droppings as fertilizer? I have tried many preparations, but I heard that they are more ecological when made by myself. How to properly make a pony? Is it profitable to do it yourself?
O:Theoretically yes, but such fertilizer is very laborious.
- 2 kilograms of chicken should be poured with 10 liters of water. After about 3 weeks of fermentation, the solution will be ready for use (bubbles stop forming on the surface).
- The barrel should be in a shaded place, away from home and neighbors. It gives off a very intense and unpleasant smell.
- Dilute the solution before watering the plants - 1 liter of the preparation per 20 liters of water. Pony fertilization can be applied up to three times per season.
When using it, be careful not to splash the leaves.Avian fertilizer is very concentrated and can burn our plants and destroy them completely.
