Thanks to planting in the last weeks before the dawn, the bushes will be more resistant to unfavorable conditions during the winter. Freshly planted bushes are quite sensitive to severe frosts. Before the onset of negative temperatures, it is good to protect the plants with a layer of sawdust or bark.
A lane is recommended for running raspberry bushes in the garden. A suitable position will be along the fence. It is important to make it a sunny place, because only when fully lit, the harvested fruit will be sweet and aromatic. For this reason, planting raspberries will be a bit different than other fruit shrubs.
Since raspberries take root quite shallow, we should not plant them too deep.It is enough if we dig a shallow groove and put raspberry seedlings in it.If we have access to manure or well-distributed compost, dig the place where the raspberries will grow with the organic substance.
The distance between plants should be approx. 40-50 cm. The empty spaces will soon be full as the raspberries grow quickly, sprouting new plants at the root tips. After placing the cuttings in the dug groove, cover them with a layer of soil a few centimeters. There are sleeping buds on the root part, from which young shoots will start to grow in the next spring.
These buds are very fragile and easy to break, so planting raspberries must be done very carefully.Press the soil around the seedling. Raspberry seedlings offered for sale usually have only one shoot growing from the root part.Immediately after planting, we can cut this shoot about 10 cm above the ground. To remember where we planted the new bush, mark the place with a stick or a twig.
