Chinese aster Callistephus chinensis is an annual species. Its most decorative varieties include prince, peony, needle and pompom asters. The varieties also differ in height (from 25 to 100 cm), flowering time, size and color of the inflorescences. The earliest ones bloom at the turn of June and July, the late ones bloom until autumn.Removing fading inflorescences prolongs flowering.Asters require fertile, humus and fresh, alkaline, sunny soil. Asters are best propagated from seedlings.
Early varieties are sown at the end of March.Asters can also be sown directly into the ground in April, but then they will bloom later than propagated from seedlings. This species is very susceptible to viral diseases. In the event of symptoms (twisted or mosaic discolored leaves and flowers), remove the infected plants and burn them, and wait a few years to grow the next asters.
The colors of fall are not only shades of gold and brown, but also pink and purple. They should also not be missing on our terraces and balconies. We now replace dying or weakly flowering summer plants with those that will look beautiful until November or even longer. The choice of species and varieties will not be a problem, because the autumn gardeners' offer is quite wide. We can choose from many varieties of chrysanthemums, pansies, low varieties of Novelgian astra, heathers, fine heathers, ivy-leaved cyclamens.
The boxes with flowering plants should be supplemented with plants with decorative leaves, such as: ash old man (frost), Brown's calocephalus, ornamental cabbage, cypress santolina, grass-root varieties, sedges, periwinkles or ivy.
Rhus typhina acetic sumac is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful garden trees. In autumn, it attracts attention with its leaves, beautifully colored intense yellow-orange and scarlet-red.Naturally grows in the eastern regions of North America, where it is most often found on the edges of forests, wastelands, slopes and along dirt roads (in very dry and barren positions)The acetic sumac is a dioecious tree.
Females develop scarlet red or maroon cob-shaped seed heads that often remain on trees until spring. In Poland, it creates tall shrubs or small trees that can grow up to 4, and sometimes even up to 10 m.The plant has a short trunk and a loosely branched habit with thick stems. It often produces suckers, creating thickets.Suckers often appear as a result of mechanical damage to the root system.
There is a tendency to break out dormant buds in places of injury. The vinegar sumac is an undemanding plant. Likes permeable soils - both dry and moist, acidic and alkaline. It is resistant to air pollution as well as dry air.In the garden, it should be planted in a place where the soil is not dug up. It is best to display it on the lawn, where you can admire its beautifully colored leaves in autumn.
We collect fruit for storage
We collect late apple varieties, such as 'Idared', 'Jonagold', 'Reneta' or 'Antonówka', before they are fully mature. We carefully arrange the picked fruit in layers in clean, washed boxes and transfer them to a cool, darkened room.
We collect seedlings
After the first frosts, and before the onset of severe frosts, we collect woody cuttings, called cuttings. We keep several-eyed sections of one-year-old shoots in a cold room until spring or put them right away.
We protect trees
All young trees planted in autumn must be protected against frost. Young roots are the most sensitive, so build a small mound around the trunk.
Once the harvest is over, the vegetable beds should be properly prepared for the new growing season. The autumn soil care includes cultivation as well as organic and mineral fertilization. In autumn, once every 2-3 years, we can enrich the soil with humus components by using compost (5-6 kg / m²) or manure (2 to 4 kg / m²).So that plants can make good use of the nutrients present in the soil, it is necessary to check its pH. Liming should be applied when the soil pH is too low.
Remember, however, that in a given year we can only apply organic fertilization or liming. A minimum 3-week break should also be kept between liming and phosphorus fertilization, otherwise water-insoluble compounds of these elements will form. When planning your crop rotation for next year, take into account that vegetables such as peas, beans, carrots, parsley, celery, tomatoes, cucumbers and pumpkins are sensitive to fresh liming.
Let's remember not to grow them in the first year after this treatment.
