Boxwood is one of the most versatile evergreen plants, valued for its high resistance to cutting. Now is an opportunity to use the cut material for cuttings.
1. Taking cuttings: Cut the shoots to the length of 8-15 cm.The best cuttings are shoots with a heel, i.e. side shoots stripped off with a piece of bark.
2. Removal of leaves: Remove the lower leaves to the middle of the shoot.
3. Planting: Dip the seedling heel in rooting powder, then plant the plants in multi-pots. At the end, the seedlings are watered with a weak stream of water.
4. Exposure: If it is cold and the stand is not sheltered from the wind, the litter box with plants should be closed with a transparent, plastic cover. This type of protection is not necessary in shady and damp places.Of course, watering should not be forgotten. Seedlings can be grown in containers until the next year. Later, we can blow them to the ground.
Newly planted plants have enough fertilizer in the ground until the end of May. Later the plants must be supplemented with an additional dose of nutrient.Strongly growing species should be fertilized once or twice a week with fast-acting fertilizer, mixing it with wateringFertilize the remaining species every 2 weeks. Alternatively, we can place fertilizer cubes in the ground.
We sow endive
Endive is not sown into the ground until mid-June to avoid shooting at the blade caused by low temperatures. New varieties resistant to stem shooting, such as 'Kalinka', can be cultivated from spring. The substrate should be moist, loose and the position sunny.Harvest from September.
Romaine lettuce
Miniature romaine lettuces such as' Xanadu ', Attico', 'Ronda', 'Pinocchio' and 'Baby Star' can be sown in batches until the end of July. The harvest continues until October. The arable land is not fed before sowing the seeds, the row spacing should be 25-30 cm. The listed varieties do not shoot at the stalk and are resistant to mildew.
Crop rotation necessary
After the first harvest, plants from the same family should not be grown on the same site, as it may sterilize the soil or spread diseases. So, for example, you should not grow cabbage, radish and beetroot after radish, and parsley and parsnips after carrots.
Let's loosen the ground
Regular topsoil loosening reduces the growth of weeds, and the soil retains moisture longer. Loosening is important especially on heavy clay soils that become crusted after rain.
