Tip: rejuvenate the strawberry seedlings

Table of contents

Strawberries are berry bushes that should grow in one place for a maximum of several years.Usually, from the third year after planting, fruiting weakens and the plants begin to bear less and less fruit. The he alth of the shrubs is also deteriorating. It is therefore important to renew the plantations as often as possible.

The easiest way to reproduce strawberries is to cut off the young cuttings that appear at the ends of the runners. The first whiskers appear during flowering. However, most of the runners start to grow up after fruiting. With a moist substrate, young plants take root quickly and can be transplanted to a new place after first digging.

The sooner we do it, the more fruit will grow on the new bushes
next year.Young seedlings planted for a new position in July and August will have a lot of time until autumn to root well
and tie a lot of flower buds for the next season.Take new seedlings from older fruit plantations.

This, however, carries the risk of transferring dangerous diseases, such as white leaf spot or verticillium wilt attacking the roots, and mites and spider mites from pests. It is good then to buy completely new, qualified seedlings from time to time.
