The first stage of this treatment is getting rid of the plants growing in the designated place under the bed.If there are permanent weeds, such as couch grass, ground elder, dandelion, nettle, preferably treat them chemically with total herbicides containing glyphosate, a weed killer.
After spraying the weeds thoroughly, wait about 3-4 weeks and dig the soil thoroughly to the depth of the spade, i.e. 25-30 cm.After approx. 3 weeks, we can fertilize the soil with good compost or spread manure at a dose of approx.300 kg per 100 m², digging it to a depth of approx. 15 cm.
Then we level the soil and start planting plants in the bed in autumn or spring. We can get rid of weeds by carefully digging and uprooting all the roots and rhizomes, but it is laborious.
IAnother way is to place a black non-woven or agrotextile mat in the place of the future bed in the autumn.It should be attached with metal pins. Leave the mat for a year, take it off, dig the soil and fertilize it with compost or manure.
