Crop rotation planning

Table of contents

The vegetables that require nutrients in the soil include: cruciferous vegetables, potatoes, cucumbers and tomatoes. Vegetables with medium requirements are: different varieties of lettuce, celery, red beets, spinach and carrots, while legumes, onion vegetables and annual herbs have much lower needs. It should be remembered that we only grow plants from one family in the same place after 3-4 years.

Below is an example of a four-year crop rotation for four beds. The succession of plants in the first row is such that in the first year we grow the most demanding species, feeding them with compost in the amount of 5 kg / 1 m², in the second year those with medium requirements are fed with 2 kg of compost, and in the third year, without fertilization, vegetables with small needs. In the fourth year, we sow green fertilizer.

In our example, we grow the same four groups of plants each year. In the first year, in the first row, we have the most demanding species, in the second - moderately demanding, in the third - those with low requirements, and in the fourth, green manure is sown. The arrangement of plants in the following years is shown in the diagram.
