PiO: fertilizing planted thuja

Table of contents

P:Last spring I planted about 50 thuja. In the summer, I sprinkled fertilizer around them against the browning of the needles. It was hot and dry then. I didn't water the trees. After some time, the conifers began to turn brown. Can I save them yet?

O:One of the most important things that is unfortunately forgotten is watering young plants that are still poorly received and not acclimatized. This is the most dangerous for them there are long-lasting droughts.Water should be infrequent, but abundantly. Only a large dose of water (8-10 l per plant) reaches the roots that can uptake it.

Watering is also used in winter during frost-free days. We mulch the soil around young plants - it not only inhibits the development of weeds, but also helps to keep the soil moist. Before winter, we protect the freshly planted plants by covering them with mulches. They protect the plants against excessive heating in early spring and fairly well against drying, slowing down dry, frosty winds.

All fertilizers for conifers in the form of a column are distributed in a circle with a diameter twice the diameter of the crown. Multicomponent mineral mixtures for conifers are used in early spring.

If the planted plants develop well and show a lack of nutrients, it is enough to apply potassium fertilizer from time to time, which increases their resistance to frost and drought. After applying mineral fertilizers, if there is no rain soon, water the plants abundantly.
