You can plant not only flowers in the bedding. I found out about it by choosing ornamental fruit trees in my garden arrangements. I have been delighted with their scent since early spring. Sumptuous cherry, apple and bird cherry blossoms decorate my flowerbeds. Then their fruit looks tempting until late autumn. For everyone who would like to have a colorful garden all year round, I recommend small trees.
Cherry Prunus serrulatadecorated my corner in Japanese style. I chose the 'Amanogawa' variety because of its narrow habit. It doesn't take up much space. The cherry itself reaches up to 7 meters. The pink and white flowers gathered in bunches reach up to 5 cm in diameter.
They develop in mid-May, simultaneously with the leaves, which are brown-redand then turn green. In turn, in autumn they turn gold and orange. They prefer sheltered places and moist soil. They look nice as a solitaire or in a composition. Mine grows in the company of acidophilic plants - rhododendrons, azaleas, skimas and squid.
The second sawn cherryI managed to get is the variety'Shirofugen'This is a small tree, up to 7 m high, o crown up to 8 m. I planted it on a high slope above the water. It has a lot of space, but also a lot of draft. As a species more sensitive than 'Amanogawa', it requires protection against frost and strong winds in its youth. The color of the flowers changes: they are dark pink in the bud, white when developed, and pink after about 10 days. Young leaves are coppery red, then turn green to turn yellow or orange in autumn. The tree does not have any special soil requirements, but it will appreciate a sheltered place, well-drained and moist soil.
MY TIPMost ornamental cherries are grafted onto a bird cherry rootstock, so pay attention to the shoots growing below the grafting site. They should be removed immediately so that they do not dominate the noble variety. Cherries do not handle cuts well, so the treatment should be kept to a minimum.
The cherry plum Prunus cerasifera(plum blossom), in my opinion, is beautiful. It is a small tree with an oval crown. The leaves are dark purple and do not change color throughout the season. This variety is resistant to urban pollution and drought. Prefers sunny or semi-shaded places. Suitable for planting singly or in groups, in rows and hedges. I have three in my garden. Their maroon-colored leaves blend in nicely with the pink blooming tamarisk.
Black cherry Prunus serotinahas pretty, lanceolate, dark green, glossy leaves. Its inflorescences are gathered in quite long, white clusters.Around mid-August, the fruit begins to ripen to a red color. Later they turn black! The tree grows even in relatively poor, sandy soils. It is frost-resistant and drought-resistant.
There is still growingornamental apple tree in the garden , probablyMalus purpleI'm not sure because it is a gift from Danka's sister-in-law. All varieties of ornamental apple trees are called paradise apples. These are small trees, up to 5 m high and the same width. Mine has green leaves, flowers are very pink, and fruits - small, red. This tree deserves a prominent position. It can be planted singly or in small groups against the background of lawn, perennials or conifers.
