Planting bulbs

At the end of the month, we start planting the bulbs of flowering plants in spring (e.g. tulips, narcissus, snowdrops, checkerboards, etc.) and in summer (garlic, lilies). We plant them in carefully prepared soil - heavy ground loosens with sand and peat, while too light and poor it is good to mix with compost.Planting depth depends on the size of the organ planted. Small bulbs are planted to a depth of several centimeters, while large bulbs - up to 20 cm. It is good to plant the bulbs and tubers in special plastic baskets, which protect the organs against rodents and make it easier to dig them out in the summer.

Propagation of perennials

We propagate perennials by dividing or cutting. The fall term is especially suitable for spring and early summer flowering plants, such as geese, carnations, cranberries, clothing and saxifrages. To divide perennials, the stumps are dug up, cleaned of soil and dead tissue, then torn or cut into smaller pieces, which are planted at once to the same depth as they grew. Cuttings are prepared from the apical fragments of shoots and placed in a moist substrate made of e.g. peat, sand or perlite.

Weed control

The dandelion is an intensely spreading weed. A quick way to get rid of it is by mechanical removal. However, this is quite troublesome due to their long and brittle tap root, which is easy to break. New rosettes grow quickly from the left root fragments. Therefore, dandelion plants should be deeply prized with an American pitchfork or a special tool that is hammered into the plant and then rotated around its axis.
