The flowering period is from June to August. The flowers bloom in white, red, orange, some varieties have very dark flowers.
Depending on the species, the calyx can produce fleshy rhizomes or tubers that produce strong, large, leathery leaves and original trumpet-shaped flowers. Kalijki grow up to a height of 30 to 100 cm.
Kalijka likes sunny to semi-shaded places. So that the roots do not rot, the plants need to grow in a well-drained, sandy substrate. From June to September, it should be displayed in a place sheltered from rain.
Rhizomes or tubers should be planted in April to a depth of approx. 8 cm to the fertile soil for flowers.
The requirements of plants are a bit unusual, because they like extreme conditions of development, from abundant watering to drought. These are habits taken from their African habitats, where periods of drought and rain alternate.During the period of growth, we water Kalijki abundantly and until flowering.
After flowering, supply and watering should be stopped (the exception is Zantedeschia aethiopica, which should be watered moderately after flowering). From July, plants are carefully planted, shaken off the soil and planted in a container.
Kalijka is mostly grown as a houseplant.Outdoor crops are perfect for cut flowers.
Smaller, orange-colored varieties of calla lilies are suitable for autumn centerpieces to decorate homes.
