How to plan an easy-to-grow garden

Table of contents

Maintaining a garden always requires a lot of time and effort. Unfortunately, few of us can give it as much attention as it requires. Here are some tips to avoid time-consuming gardening work:

- Good rebate preparation before setting them up - digging and thorough removal of weeds, especially perennial weeds. Leaving them "get their revenge" on us later. If weeds create runners or rhizomes (e.g. couch grass, ground elder, field horsetail), when digging, you must not use a tiller, which can cut the rhizomes, and thus contribute to the multiplication of unwanted guests.

- Limiting formed hedges - this is one of the most labor-intensive plant assumptions. Keeping them in perfect condition requires trimming the bushes several times (at least twice) a year.

- Planting plants that are less vigorous and easy to control. Let's give up growing shrubs, trees and vigorous vines that often need to be trimmed.Let's also give up plants that grow or multiply intensively: by seeds, rhizomes, stolons or suckers (e.g. white snowball, vinegar sumac).Fighting them takes a lot of time later.

- Avoidance of plants that require support or ties, such as larkspur or dahlias.

- The method for autumn leaves - in line with the current fashion, conifers become obsolete, while deciduous trees and shrubs force us to get rid of fallen leaves every year. Remember that dried leaves are a valuable source of organic matter in the garden. Rake can be used for compost. Another, not very troublesome way to clean them is to use a mower (we remove the leaves when mowing the lawn).A mulching mower works well for this.

- Automatic Watering - There are many ways to automatically deliver and dose water to plants in flower beds. Many of them are also perfect for container cultivation. These methods not only release us from the obligation to water, but also improve plant growth (reduce water stress).

The above-mentioned tips for planning a discount will save time devoted to gardening. However, it is not worth giving up your favorite plants just because they require more work. The pleasure of communing with them may outweigh the certain inconvenience of growing them.
