Green beans - sowing, care and harvest

Table of contents

Seeding

Theoretically, the green beans are sown at the end of April. Due to our climatic conditions, however, I suggest that you wait until mid-May, until the "cold gardeners" have passed.

Before placing the seeds in the soil, I soak them in water for a few hours. This makes the plant sprout faster. I plant the beans in the holes at a distance of about 20 cm.

Care

When the plant reaches 15 cm, I dig it in - just like potatoes. Thanks to this procedure, the stem is stronger and less prone to fractures.I spread some straw around the planted vegetables. This has two purposes. Firstly, it protects the young plant against possible temperature drops, and secondly - the fruit will not lie on the ground.

Collection

When it comes to harvesting, it's best to pick the young pods. They are the fleshiest ones. Older ones take a sip and do not taste so good anymore. In addition, the regularly picked fruit stimulates the bush to produce new ones.

Protection

Unfortunately, like other legumes, beans are exposed toaphidsI fight these pests with home spraying. I mix a liter of water with half a glass of vinegar. The proportions can be changed, but you must not overdo it with vinegar, because in excess it could harm the plant.
